Re: Gateway Tower (RBC/Four Seasons) - 37 stories - 503'
It's weird that this site still has to carry its 'iconic' baggage. If this is a mediocre development, then... what is everything else that's been built in the last two decades? I mean, this will literally be the best high-rise building built in Minneapolis since at least 2007 (Carlyle), and I'd arg...

Re: Gateway Tower (RBC/Four Seasons) - 37 stories - 503'
I really couldn't care less about the pull in for the hotel...I think it would actually improve this part of Hennepin, keeping some activity going there often, and you know it would be a well maintained area with that type of hotel. The sign, I can see being an issue, I do like that we aren't clutte...

Re: Mortenson / USBank site - 333 Hennepin Ave E (290' - 26 stories)
PS. J2...maybe you don’t intend it, but you’re coming off awfully condescending and rude. This is usually a pretty friendly place for commentary where one isn’t berated for not sounding like an architect or engineer. Maybe lighten up a little, I’m not as clueless as you seem to think...I have enough...

Textured precast with depressions (instead of actual glass) that matched the window patterns would also maybe be an option?

Re: Mortenson / USBank site - 333 Hennepin Ave E (290' - 26 stories)
I guess the simplest solution would be to make it appear as if there were windows there, as so many other buildings do. Most buildings don't make you say, "oh, there is where the elevator shafts are", even if they share an exterior wall. You seem very defensive here...I apologize if you ha...

Re: Mortenson / USBank site - 333 Hennepin Ave E (290' - 26 stories)
Actually doesn't look as bad as I thought it would....but the blank spot where the elevators are will be terrible. The blank spot where the elevators are is already enclosed on the building. It is the section of charcoal precast with the row of windows down the middle, to the right of the construct...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis General Topics & Development Map
Anyone else lamenting that the Ichiban site is still vacant? It kinds kills the activity on that end of the mall. Even if the building is torn down it'll be great to have this corner activated! Always...and every other vacant spot along Nicollet...and the fact that there hasn't been any news in the...

Would be nice if the block could be saved and restored...but I suppose not likely to happen.

Re: 36th and Bryant Area
As pro development as I am...I can't say I wouldn't be a little upset that my home of however many years was suddenly going to have a 4 story apartment building next door? I think most would...it isn't a surprising reaction...and it isn't as if Bryant is the same as Henn, Lyndale or France, where I ...

Re: Nicollet Mall
I know it's not the same as actually being there, but a quick Google Maps trip down 16th Street (imagery from 2017-18) and it's almost indistinguishable from Nicollet. Some chain restaurants. A Panera. A few local upscale bars. Corporate buildings built with no regard for the mall. Some brutalism. ...

Re: Gateway Tower (RBC Plaza Jr.) - 30 stories - 458'
I feel like...whatever anyone's opinion is on the current proposal, it should be pointed out that we are still pretty close to the original timeline, aren't we? I think they have only had one small extension? So regardless of what is going on here...it isn't like a building should already be finishe...

Re: North Loop Neighborhood
That is actually a pretty nice looking ramp...as far as ramps go. And it is a nice visual and physical buffer to the edge of the neighborhood. Not a horrible use for that little space.

I think if the lower portion had some kind of anchor I’d be really happy with this. Would be a good spot for another try at a downtown movie theater, or some other active “anchor” use. Like the pinstripes idea or a new home for a comedy club, a downtown Best Buy...something.

Funny thing is...the tower that is there already from the 60s was supposed to have a twin.

Re: Calhoun Towers - 3430 List Place (2x 281' - 24 stories)
I like this project...but I must admit, I am sad about the large amount of very large Cottonwood trees that will be lost for it. That will really change the feel of the area. They are kind of a green wall over there right now.
