Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News
I recall hearing (some time back, I admit) that the branch at 8th and Park would be relocated to the new complex. Never saw mention of planned changes for the old Midland branch.

Re: Minnesota State Fair
While I don't think any parking has ever been converted, they do seem to have made an effort to increase usage of the the less visited corners of the fairgrounds to spread folks around. The northern reaches of Machinery Hill used to be pretty dead compared to today. Coming from Hamline-Midway (typic...

Re: Embarrassing Confessions of Urbanists
I actually get pleasure from pressing "beg buttons", provided they are of the newer optical sensor type. I don't care for the traditional buttons and detest the raised metal arrow versions, but there is something satisfying about placing my finger in front of the sensor on these less-commo...

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)
I was thinking the exact same thing on my ride home this afternoon. Stops were jerky, we were slow to leave many stations for no apparent reason, and we missed many green lights that we normally don't miss. It added a good five minutes to a Nicollet-Snelling trip.

Re: Major League Soccer Stadium in Minnesota
I have never understood what the appeal of the Minneapolis site is... It's on essentially an "earlobe" of land wedged in between 394 and 94. I don't want to spend my time sitting on an earlobe next to a garbage burner.

Some things never change... The skyway from the second floor of Powers would take you to what was actually the "third floor" of McDonalds and you needed to go down a set of stairs to get to the second floor seating area.

Re: Downtown East Project (Ryan Companies / Wells Fargo)
I wouldn't be surprised to see some space vacated at Wells Fargo Center as well. WF currently occupies only about 1/3 of the tower and as much as I love the building, it is very much a product of the 80's and lacks the sort of ameneties that can be built into the DTE project. I wouldn't expect anyon...

Art, Mini-Golf, Coffee and Beer ! But not necessarily in that order :D Been watching this building (multi-building complex, actually) for years hoping for just this sort of development. It's been great watching the city website and seeing permits pulled for electrical and HVAC work rather than the ...

That's an interesting project to be undertaking when the Exeter Group's site states that 85% of the building is under a long term lease to Loomis. I see armored cars coming and going regularly from the Raymond avenue facing portion of the building (and a couple are even visible in the Google street ...

Re: 50th anniversary of the 1965 Twin Cities tornado outbrea
I spent about five hours yesterday evening listening to the WCCO radio coverage from that night (from Radiotapes.com) I can only hope the Twin Cities never have to go through a night like that again.

Re: Downtown East LRT Ped Bridge & Stadium Plaza (MSFA Block
If I remember correctly, that skyway originally had a wall partitioning off one third of its width as a private passage for First Bank employees to pass between their offices in the two buildings. So, strange as it looks today, there is a reason for its incredible width.

The NLD name seems to pop up in relation to Walgreens projects in a number of places, so it's likely the mystery's over even before it's begun. Still, I'd say that it's a good thing for both downtown and Walgreens. Too many of their local stores are outdated messes, so to have both downtown Minneapo...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis General Topics & Development Map
Back in a prior life, I was for a brief time (18 months) a postal worker at the downtown Post Office. Before being hired, I had to go to the downtown Saint Paul facility to pee in a cup, and I remember thinking what an incredible residential conversion that property could be (this was nearly 20 year...

Re: Minneapolis Skyway System
I would love to track down a map of the number/color coding system that I recall from around 1980. If you want to get to Powers, just follow the Green/4 (or something like that... my memory is a little fuzzy on the details.)

Re: Downtown East Project (Ryan Companies / Wells Fargo)
I pulled into the ramp at Downtown East around 8:30 this morning and it was filled with a nasty smelling smoke. The lower level had huge pools of standing water and smelled no better so I hightailed it out of there and headed for the Haaf ramp. My day generally starts out better when I'm on the Gree...

Whatever we call it, I welcome it. Not only will we have a wonderful ballpark in Lowertown that I look forward to accessing via the Green Line, but the dog will no longer be traumatized by Friday night fireworks at Midway Stadium. Win-win.

Re: "B Line" West 7th Street Arterial Bus
I love the letter-naming convention, but it would be better if they chose meaningful letters. C-line for Chicago, P-line for Penn, S-line for Snelling (M for Midway maybe?), F-line for Fort Road. Obviously, they would have to compromise on some, but the order of implementation will be meaningless o...

Re: Gateway Corridor
We should be so lucky that in our lifetimes we need to worry about a major transit corridor being named the "Mauve Line" or the "Puce Line". It will be quite some time before we even need to worry about using up more obvious choices like purple, yellow or brown.

Re: 300 University (Old Home Dairy)
Not to keep things off topic too long, but since we're already there... I'm always watching for any hint of something happening with the St. Paul Casket Company building. I believe Landfill has been closed for quite a while, but it has also been the longtime warehouse for the Cheapo/Applause record ...
