Re: Autonomous vehicles impact on real estate

I hate to spoil it but autonomous vehicles aren’t going to work. There is sooo much money and focus pouring into autonomous vehicles, they will figure it out. Consider the sensors and computing power needed to make autonomous vehicles work are dropping in price by double digits each year consistent...

Re: What wrong with our parks?

The vast majority of Minneapolis parks don't have baseball fields or any fields at all, so I rather strongly disagree with that premise. Most neighborhood parks have playground equipment, which is important. We do not generally have formal gardens and a few more of those might be nice, but overall I...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Riverfront - Mill Ruins Park - Waterworks

It amazes me how much of the milling infrastructure was already gone when that B&W aerial was taken. The pictures in "Minneapolis and the Age of Railways" are a revelation. I had no idea that the Washburn Mill originally had no view of the river. Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk

Indeed. It was originally a footpath between two important sites to Native Americans: the falls and Bde Maka Ska.

Re: Single Family Home Architectural Styles in Minneapolis

The Minneapolis Central Library has an online collection of Minneapolis house plans: https://reflections.mndigital.org/?_=1511201556411&f[collection_name_ssi][]=Hennepin+County+Library&f[keyword_ssim][]=Architect+Designed+Houses A lot of these plans were "stock" plans for the Twin ...

Re: Single Family Home Architectural Styles in Minneapolis

That's not quite a bungalow in the classic sense, but it has some characteristics. It was likely built between 1900 and 1920 and min-chi-cbus is probably right that 1910-1920 is quite likely. Almost all the houses built in that period fall under the "transitional" style, meaning they don't...

Re: Arby’s Island

Oh I misread. Maybe Lake could work as three lanes with one reversible and a two lane Lagoon. Or a three lane reversible Lagoon.

Re: Arby’s Island

Maybe Lake could have four lanes with one/two reversible for 3-1 operation. The PM traffic is definitely heavy westbound. Lagoon gets absolutely jammed right around Emerson. I've not really experienced eastbound PM rush so I don't know if this would really work or not. Sent from my Nexus 5X using Ta...

Re: Arby’s Island

Better sidewalks on Lagoon west of Hennepin are desperately needed. East of Hennepin less so but would be nice.

Re: Minnesota Transportation Funding (General)

Sounds like those "federal requirements" are mostly environmental review. Sounds like a terrible plan. I'd be all for reducing the federal highway share to be equal to the federal transit share though. Or better yet, raise the transit share but that won't happen. Sent from my Nexus 5X usin...

Re: Arby’s Island

Yeah, Lagoon ain't closing to traffic any time soon. I hate the one way pair as much as anyone but I don't think Lake alone has the ROW to handle the demand.

Re: Minnesota Transportation Funding (General)

We get there when the issue is forced. Unfortunately there hasn't been enough pain yet. People I think instinctively know our traffic really isn't that bad compared to other places. The key is to have a plan ready when the pain gets here. In the meantime we use the mechanisms available as best we ca...

Re: Rex 26 - 2601 Lyndale Ave S

I'd presume incompetence before I presume malice. The city should put its foot down if it happens again with this developer. It can't become a trend. At the same time, development is tough, and occasionally things don't work out cleanly. An occasional small mulligan seems fair. This isn't a small c...

Re: U.S. Bank Stadium

One could argue that San Francisco/Santa Clara are essentially Northern/Midwestern cities, geographically at least (they are at the same lattitude as southern Missouri/Illinois). "Western" is probably a better descriptor though.

Re: Rex 26 - 2601 Lyndale Ave S

That's sort of like saying we don't really care about the rule of law. Yes, I know the law is flexible, and on and on. But at what point do we put our foot down and say that bad behavior by developers won't be tolerated. Plenty of us have complained in the past about developers radically changing an...

Re: U.S. Bank Stadium

Yes, I've a feeling that ten years from now the Super Bowl may not be as big of a deal. Certainly within 20. Youth football participation has dropped off and likely will continue to do so. Teams are already struggling mightily at the QB position and are beginning to do so at the other "skill&qu...

Re: Arby’s Island

I'm with Thatcher. This intersection *really* needs work for pedestrians. I almost never use the official crosswalks because they make no sense, avoiding direct routes in favor of indirect multiple-crossing routes.
