Re: Heritage lines, excursion trains, and other railroad attractions in MN
Noticed something in the freight rail forecast that the north shore scenic railroad is looking for $760,000 in support for a "rail siding for private car Bed & Breakfast" Anyone know what car/plan they could be talking about? iirc they did add the Puget Sound to their collection but I ...

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)
I'm not sure this will effect the state much but Andy Byford has been hired as the Senior Vice President for Amtrak’s high-speed rail.
Don't think this will magically revive zip rail but isn't the nlx still pitched as higher speed or did they bump the top speed of 90mph to 79mph.

Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT
They repaired it awhile ago and I swear they also extended it a bit since I swear it used to end at buff creek dr but now it goes all the way down to chaska and maybe carver.

The depot will close down effective April 2nd.
Hopefully they'll find a use for it and leave it abandon or worse, demolished it.

Re: Heritage lines, excursion trains, and other railroad attractions in MN
-Friends of the 261 ran excursions available to the public to Duluth, Willmar, Montevideo, and Winona in the 2000s Wasn't the reason the friends stopped doing there Duluth excision something to do with PTC/the line needing a lot more upgrades or was that just because BNSF was being BNSF. If it was ...

Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT
To be fair I'm sure there where a few people who when first head about the problem, thought it was just one more reason on the long list why we should of gone with the alternative routes.

Re: Heritage lines, excursion trains, and other railroad attractions in MN
Knew I forgot something obvious, I'll add it to the list after I find a few more ones I think I missed, which so far was the old Minnesota Zephyr that I'm not sure to add since it was closed down years ago. Also finally found that old narrow gauge, it was the Northfield & Cannon Valley Railroad ...

Heritage lines, excursion trains, and other railroad attractions in MN
Recently I've been trying to find info of an old narrow gauge steam railroad I rode when I was really young somewhere in southern MN. while I can't dig anything up at the moment I thought it might be informative/fun to list some of the more unique railroads attractions in the state in case there's a...

Re: Suburban Transit (Opt-out Services Providers)
yep, though strangely enough SW is the closest as of last September is almost back to pre-pandemic levels.
I don't know how or why but kind think it'll be funny if it beats MVTA when the later was almost 3 times bigger back then.

Re: Suburban Transit (Opt-out Services Providers)
no one really talks about the ridership numbers for the suburban opt outs so decided to go digging in some old APTA reports and made this Also before anyone asks, they don't have any data for Maple Grove Transit for some reason. https://imgur.com/wKGHBOz Edit: sorry for the bad image quality, here's...

Re: Excelsior, Wayzata and Lake Minnetonka area
And yet people are paying a lot of money for the other amenities, i.e. a big lake I'm not usually a suburb defender but this is my one. I'll defend Excelsior and beg for commuter rail to return to Wayzata with ferry service to the lake. Metro Transit branded ferries anyone? Like the Copenhagen ones...

Re: Amtrak Empire Builder and TCMC
It's not ripping double track I would be worried about, it would be funding mainly going to the busiest lines where a lot of short lines getting the short end of the stick for maintenance. We see it a bit with roads, the interstate, highways, and anything for suburbanites. If some side street is mor...

Re: Amtrak Empire Builder and TCMC
Call me a cynic but the one knock against a national railroad system in the US I have is I fully expected it to be as fully funded and up to date on maintenance as the interstate highway system.
i.e. not at all.

Re: Amtrak Empire Builder and TCMC
There are some issues with class 1 with the biggest imo is the companies and investors being obsessed with operating ratios since I think a lot of them still think it's a dying industry. There was an interesting episode of a podcast called well there's your problem that went into a 3 hour discussion...

Re: Amtrak Empire Builder and TCMC
Yes we may be the fastest growing but what about the other regions for a the proposed lines? How much traffic is betweens the corridor and if there's a lot of air traffic are people flying to MSP as a destination or because it's a major transfer hub for delta. And there's also Amtrak which a) seems ...

Re: Amtrak Empire Builder and TCMC
I call some of them fantasy because that's what some of them are under the current state and federal administrations as well as kind of inflate the influence the twin cities has as a region. I'm not betting in states like Iowa, Montana, or North Dakota playing ball to get things like the north coast...
