MPR has more photos of the space. Just like with the Union Depot prior to renovation, it is delightfully decrepit!

St. Paul Palace Theater renovation
http://www.twincities.com/stpaul/ci_24403302/st-paul-palace-theater-renovation-state-funding-sought I hadn't heard anything about this at all! I've often wondered what it looks like in there, apart from the computer rendering they provide in the article. EDIT: found some photos taken last year: http...

Re: Target Center Renovation
I think that you have good intentions, but the reality is that politicians play politics. Appointing unelected bureaucrats puts the public in a losing situation. And unelected officials especially have broad reigns to exercise influence and play favorites. I'd rather keep that out of the stadiums. I...

Re: Target Center Renovation
I think at40man is looking at the word "competitiveness" wrong. Target Center needs to be competitive to Xcel in terms of quality, not so it can actually compete against Xcel. The two arenas are already directly competing for the same events, which has been widely reported as a race to th...

Re: Downtown Restaurant News
The articles calls out the exception of Andrea Pizza, but will any other venues in the Gaviidae food court be closing Oct 31st in addition to McDonald's? There's only a handful of eateries up there at this point.

Re: Millienials moving into luxury apartments
Notice how the bad actors in the "enviable crash" are renters, not developers or bankers? Typical right wing class bias Class bias? That cuts both ways. If developers are over-developing, then that makes them bad actors. If the government and federal reserve continues to play with the mon...

Re: University Avenue Traffic Lane Modification Study
I honestly would prefer to bike along Sherburne or Charles, 1-2 blocks to the north. Drivers tend to be more cautious in neighborhoods, which makes a safer environment. Sherburne would require the most modifications, because there are concrete islands which would need to have an indent to allow peds...

Re: Millienials moving into luxury apartments
Sorry, I'm having a really hard time reading this thread as anything other than at40man being butt hurt that everybody doesn't live like him and value the same things at the same level as he does. That's news to me! ;) My point, however, is that it isn't a good idea for my fellow millennials live b...

Re: Target Center Renovation
If the goal is competitiveness, then I would hope that the ridiculous proposal for a joint stadium authority is dropped entirely. Otherwise it reeks to high heaven of collusion, which can only hurt the Xcel.

Re: Millienials moving into luxury apartments
You make it sound like people are spending $1500 a month in Uptown because they don't realize there are houses in the suburbs that cost less, which is certainly not the case. I'm sure you can spend $1100 a month in Uptown and $1500 a month in the suburbs. Did you read my posts in their entirety? To...

Re: The Penfield - (101 10th Street East)
Just to get a perspective, The Penfield will be at most 6 blocks from Mears Pear. So when you say it is out of the way it really is not. It just had not been redeveloped out that far in that direction. Wacota commons was the last real redevelopment to the north of lowertown. I see the Penfield as a...

Re: Millienials moving into luxury apartments
You can't really compare a house in the Northeast suburbs to an apartment in one of the most urban areas of the city. That's just... wow. Other than that they are both places to live, there's nothing in common between those two housing choices. I'm sure you could find a house out there that would c...

Re: Millienials moving into luxury apartments
What exactly are you concerned about? Other people having bad credit? Institutional investors being burned by bad loans made to development companies? I think its great either way these apartments are being built. A - There is enough money being made in this town to pay the rents these places desir...

Re: University Avenue Traffic Lane Modification Study
I am a bicyclist, and there is NO WAY I would bike down University if they were to restripe it to accommodate cyclists. There are way too many stoplights, turnoffs into various businesses, and crazy drivers. Put all the traffic calming measures in you want, and squeeze any number of cars you want th...

Re: Millienials moving into luxury apartments
Well, being in my late 20s I fit into that bracket perfectly, and did the math a couple years ago as I was in the same situation you describe. Once taxes, benefits, etc. are taken out of the check, it leaves $1500 per bi-weekly pay period. I think it is prudent to point out that the average "yo...

Re: 510 Marquette Avenue
It is turning into a schizophrenic mess. Was by again the other day and it just looks like someone made a huge mistake when they put the windows in with horizontal instead of vertical separation mulleins. Like they were asleep at the computer or came to work with a major hangover and did not focus ...

Re: The Penfield - (101 10th Street East)
I actually just started a new thread about this. I've been helping out in the recruiting and hiring process at the IT consulting agency I work for while I am waiting to start on my next client. We have lured many of those "young Target employees" away, and I know for fact that they are sp...

Re: The Penfield - (101 10th Street East)
I very well could be incorrect about who is the current owner of it - my memory is admittedly a bit fuzzy. Back in 2009, I lived next door, and this was just a pit in the ground. My landlord said it had been a parking lot which was purchased in order to build condominiums and an indoor farmers marke...

Re: Zen and the Art of Elevator Maintenance
There is actually a hidden elevator that hasn't been used in years, too. Used to be a service elevator for the restaurants that occupied the 2nd and 3rd floors over the food court. Are you talking about the service elevator? That's in frequent use. I use it a lot as it drops me off literally outsid...
