Re: 365 Nicollet - (Opus Ritz block)

I'm with EOst, height is a distraction that can cause mid-size cities similar to ours to misdiagnose their issues. Ten blocks of four-to-six-story brownstone-like apartment buildings would do much more for our city than a couple status symbols that worldwide skyscraper fans briefly talk about. For ...

Re: Ironclad Apartments & Moxy Hotel - Washington & Chicago

Facebook page has an updated rendering https://www.facebook.com/Ironclad-MPLS-252984191717940/?fref=ts Is that a woonerf on the far East side of the building... The reconstructed rendering of Washington Avenue though... The new look of the corner. Yup I've boarded the HYPE train. Seriously though, ...

Re: U.S. Bank Stadium Construction Updates

The air conditioning inside the stadium had a real test today and it was glorious. Everyone inside was commenting on how awesome it was. The bathroom lines were really bad. It took way too long to go. I heard some food vendors ran out of food which seems strange. It was also really hard to find good...

Re: Stadium LRT Station, Ped Bridge & Plaza (MSFA block)

I just got back home from the Chelsea - AC Milan game and wanted to talk about the bridge. Now before VAStationDude calls us all Europhile Hipsters for the fourth time I would like to mention that that place sold out and was 64,101 strong. The bridge did a good job. I completely agree with Archiapol...

http://users.cla.umn.edu/~lindsayt/Vikings_Stadium_Bridge_20160802_med.jpg All dat concrete do'. Being serious for a second. That picture highlights the exact problem with this block plus the stadium. It is two colors: black and gray. Everything else is just shades between. It's oppressive and blea...

Re: White Castle and Holiday at Central & Hennepin

Anyone able to dig up if the Planning Commission vote with just 5 out of 10 members present was legal? That would be reason enough to appeal - just to ask the City Council's Zoning and Planning Committee to properly review the applications. I'm fine with throwing money at the appeal purely as a del...

Re: White Castle and Holiday at Central & Hennepin

I have to plead ignorance on what that project was -- but surely you see the difference between refusing to vacate right-of-way that they own, versus preventing a private developer from using their private land almost exactly as the city has prescribed. The problem is that the city's prescription i...

Re: White Castle and Holiday at Central & Hennepin

Yeah, what about new Ped Overlays? Or, are we going to (continue to) run around and try to put out fires AFTER they are submitted with existing guidelines in place and have ZERO leverage and open the city to litigation by the owners? This. I like that this inspires such resistance, but what is bein...

Re: Cedar - Franklin - Minnehaha Intersection

I don't mean to beat a dead horse, but I will anyway. The county couldn't find $300,000 dollars? What the eff? That is a real shame. I hope they don't push this down the road over a small amount of money.

Strange renderings of stone facade on giant new house planned along Minnehaha Creek near 52nd and Penn. http://www.minneapolismn.gov/www/groups ... 182855.pdf

Wow that masonry on the front is rather tacky. The garage doors are as well.

Re: City living apps

I was playing Pokémon Go at the University of Minnesota today with my roommate. There must have been over 1 hundred players all around campus today. It was insane. There were also two mormon missionaries who were completely dumbfounded by it. That made me chuckle.

Edit: Long live our lord Zapdos.

Re: White Castle and Holiday at Central & Hennepin

I've wondered this too... You always hear that gas stations use gas to bring in customers who then buy other products that actually have a profit margin. And that may work fine for a large-format suburban/rural gas station. But ultimately these gas stations are so ridiculously congested at certain ...

Re: White Castle and Holiday at Central & Hennepin

Vacate 6th St stub and give it to them to help them assemble a much larger site, on the condition that they hit a high minimum FAR and other good urban standards. The fire department would stop this on their own. Jokingly though, I frequent this gas station in the mornings for my bananas on the way...

The A Line is now called out on the Blue line train when entering 46th Street Station. It is announced before all the others. It caught me off guard.
