Re: Bottineau LRT (Blue Line Extension)
Didn't we already try to raise our own funds with the CTIB which if I remember correctly ended up crashing and burning. Joking aside if a second attempt where made I feel that instead of full sized counties deciding to join or not, letting individual cities might work better for a few reasons. With ...

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings
15,000 seems like a bit much but given how the old fare boxes are 26-27 years old now they probably needed to be replaced anyways. Kinda like the idea of being able to use debit/credit cards for payment as it opens up the possibility of different card companies/banks making some form of deal with me...

Re: Hopkins - General Topics
I said I would wait a little to comment on the trails and sidewalks till we get more info, but since it looks like their planning on extending the trail on Excelsior Blvd. to Shady Oak rd. I wonder if there's any thing to warrant extending the trail east on Excelsior.

Re: Hopkins - General Topics
Few odd notes after skimming through the plan: seems on the proposed land use image they are planning to expand the downtown center a little (always considered downtown Hopkins boxed in between 1st N to Excelsior blvd for the north and south boundaries and 6th ave to 13th as the east and west but th...

Re: Bicyclist Demographics (and popular image)
Can only give some advice biking from downtown Hopkins to Hopkins High School (and a little of North Junior High) so its nothing to exact but from my own personal experiences: Get a decent sized lock: I don't know how many people bike to SLP High but at Hopkins on some days during the fall and sprin...

Fishing in the Metro Area
I rarely get the chance to go fishing now since I can rarely find enough time to get outside of the metro area nowadays, so a few days ago when my Dad and Uncle invited me to go on a fishing trip out in western Minnesota over the weekend that was free for once, I accepted almost immediately. However...

Re: Hopkins - General Topics
I've been thinking, with the Cold Storage site being around 17 acres and assuming the SuperValue site gets fully developed which is around 45-46 acres (2 million sq ft), that's around 62-63 acres from just two sites in Hopkins (and that's ignoring a few others decent size sites). Which considering h...

Re: Fantasy maps
Thinking a little bit about Abrt I started to wonder if there are any other corridors more that could be added in the future besides the original dozen or so studied back in 2011/2012. Looking at a few routes in terms of ridership and how they relate to the future lines, I could think of 4 off the t...

Re: Hopkins - General Topics
Even if only a fraction of the supervalue land gets redeveloped I would still be contempt since now that the area around Blake is undergoing a fair bit of redeveloped, I would argue that the land on the south side of excelsior blvd is one of the if not the most areas that could benefit with some red...

huh, good to know. told most of my coworkers thought it was an escapee from some fast food restaurant (though it wasn't the oddest things some of them have seen on a bike trail)

Re: Edina – General Topics
Alright this might seem out of nowhere but does Edina have any rules/regulations on urban chicken coops, I only ask since yesterday I was biking on the 9 mile trail and I see one next to the trail in front of an apartment building. I figure they must be allowed since it must of gotten out somehow or...

Re: Scooter sharing
My current biggest concern is that once people start zipping around on electric scooters on bike paths, we'll see a surge in privately owned gasoline powered scooters and skateboards with stinky, noisy 2 stroke engines. If I recall correctly MN law states that only a selected few motorized vehicles...

Re: Scooter sharing
"Motorized Foot Scooters" are defined in state statute 169.011 and given basically the same "rights and duties" and bicycles in 169.225. https://www.revisor.mn.gov/statutes/cite/169.011#stat.169.011.46 https://www.revisor.mn.gov/statutes/cite/169.225 In that case I would argue t...

Re: Bike Share
Thinking more about bike share in the Twin Cities: it would be great if the cities along the southwest light rail would adopt a dockless bike share program before the southwest light rail opens. Having a ductless bike share system could really do a lot to encourage more pedestrian/bicycle friendly ...

Re: Twin Cities to Eau Claire regional rail
Well given how hard it is to get one lrt line going, a line that doesn't enter the MSP core area somewhere nor connects with any other metro line probably has a snowballs chance. But now that I think about it, I agree a commuter line from Minneapolis and St. Paul to Stillwater would work with maybe ...

Re: Twin Cities to Eau Claire regional rail
didn't know about the old Stillwater spur so decided to look into it and made a quick drawing of it Green is the main line that the Eau Claire train would use, orange is the ROW that still has some track, and yellow is the ROW that doesn't (pretty sure its a bike trail now) https://i.imgur.com/ZU2Wk...

Re: Twin Cities to Eau Claire regional rail
I wonder if its just a Strib reporting error about the group wanting to get a station in Stillwater, or if they still plan on adding one I'm scratching my head a little to how their gonna try to pull that off since iirc there isn't any tracks that go through Stillwater
