Re: Major League Soccer Stadium in Minneapolis
Williams and Mariucci Arenas are currently set up for those specific teams. However, both are used almost daily for other events. TCF was built to maximize those events, but would still be used for many of them even if it wasnt built for them. As a season ticket holder for the 3 major sports at the...

Re: WaHu Student Housing - 1000 Washington Avenue SE
Are you talking about the ridiculously narrow coffee shop on the same block as Espresso Expose? Also, east of Wahu is no mans land :D That's the one. Also, in defense of the area east of WaHu, it DOES have Caspian Bistro. Which has an awesome market, the best spot for feta and pistachios that I've ...

There's also Overflow three-ish blocks to the east. There's a Caribou Coffee in the strip mall with Burger King, but it's not like two coffee shops across the street from each other is unheard of either.

Re: WaHu Student Housing - 1000 Washington Avenue SE
There used to be one in Stadium Village on the block just east of Moos Tower. I went there all the time before I graduated in 2007, not sure when exactly it closed, but it was never particularly crowded. With more housing in Stadium Village now they could perhaps do better, but I'd be surprised if t...

Re: Dinkytown
I haven't been to Dinkytown much recently, but I needed to talk to someone at Varsity Bikes yesterday and had a bit of time to burn waiting for a bus. Man, what an improvement. I'm not a huge fan of the Marshall's design, but the bulk added by all the new buildings in that area has really changed th...

Re: Major League Soccer Stadium in Minneapolis
The "stadia are great for restaurants" argument? One would think any potential lost taxes would more than be made up in revenue from other sources, let alone the taxes that those revenues would generate.

Re: Twin Cities' National and Global Image
I've stopped being able to tell if I have thin skin, if that joke stopped being funny many, many years and millions of retelling ago, if the people telling it have ever actually been across the river, or if it's even meant as a joke half the time. Regardless, how about it just stops being a thing? C...

Re: Strong Towns
I'm not sure if it's that others (me) thought Strong Towns was about something it wasn't, or if he's narrowed his focus a lot recently (honestly, I don't remember old articles enough to tell), but it seems as though it's just that for Chuck "strong" has a very, very specific meaning relate...

He really started losing me when the rants about "density" started, accompanied by pictures of environments that I don't think any real person would actually argue are "dense".

Re: Kowalskis Market on Grand
I'd actually hoped they'd move to the corner and place their parking towards ayd mill. While ideal, that would have been too much to hope for, I think. I'm glad this is finally happening. I was starting to wonder why I hadn't heard anything about this in...a year? Something like that. And if that r...

And Minnesota, of course, was the first state to promise troops, the 1st Minnesota Volunteer Infantry, to the Union cause after Fort Sumter thanks to Governor Ramsey being in Washington at the time.

Re: Future cars / Driverless cars
Which also means that the automated driving needs to be capable of accounting for the overwhelming number of drivers early on who behave stupidly. Since I don't pay much attention to Google or Tesla's efforts here, I don't know if they're at that point (though I very much doubt it). Anyone know?

Re: Public Transit News and Happenings
I don't see how sticking an AI in a car changes purchasing patterns. Automate the entire 2016 Ford lineup and you'll still have people who want a jacked up pickup to drive from a cul-de-sac to an office job downtown. It's just going to be a robotic jacked up pickup. Automation has NOTHING to do wit...

Driverless this, automated that. I'll believe it when I see it. For now it's the flying car. Nothing we should be making any sort of planning decisions based on.

It should at least represent more of our local diversity. Fish sauce, lingonberry, and goat?

Papa John's is no great loss since to my mind pizza sauce should have more tomato than sugar, but Campus Pizza? That sucks. Really, really sucks. But I guess 5 pizza places might be too many even for a growing student population. It's just too bad it's Campus Pizza closing and not Domino's.

Re: Snelling and University TOD: "SmartSite Redevelopment"
The problem with that is that the most desirable spots - near University - are the spot owned by R.K. Midway, not a public entity. The city would need to buy the property before auctioning it off, and R.K. Midway is unlikely to sell it cheap.

Re: Snelling and University TOD: "SmartSite Redevelopment"
RK Midway. This is...big. I expect I'll be hearing a lot about this soon as Union Park was juuuust about to set up a task force to coordinate with the other parties involved. It's bad in that there might be some coordination issues with road construction and the like. But I can see a major upside to...
