Re: What will it take to develop DTE?
What if the parking lots were converted into underground lots, and above were built 3-4 story row houses and apartments. Nice and dense on small lots. I'm thinking if you broke down the city block into quarters with small pedestrian only streets (wide enough for fire trucks) bisecting the blocks wit...

Re: Green Line (Central)
Operational costs would go down if we got rid of fares, more passengers would be attracted to the system, and dwell times would go down because all-door boarding could be used everywhere and there wouldn't be problems with people hunting around for change forever. But of course it would be a huge p...

Re: Loring Vue Apartments - (415 Oak Grove Street)
Like waking up to the sun :) I rent, in a nice neighborhood and have an apartment about the size of the "alcove unit" and pay WAY less. Still have a view out my bedroom window (or a window in my bedroom for that matter). Just sayin these developers are charging way too much. Yeah, they're ...

Re: Prospect Park Station - (2901 Fourth Street Southeast)
Ok. I think the NIMBY comes from Prospect Park on the south side of university being designated a historic district but on the north it seems to be fair game. I'm all for the right kind of development, but I fear that a large scale development will displace lot's of jobs from inexpensive work spaces...

Re: Loring Vue Apartments - (415 Oak Grove Street)
It is nice that it's filling a void. But gotta say I would never pay $1,200-1,400 a month for a bedroom without a window... especially when you can have a mortgage on an entire house for a little more than half that.

Re: Izzy's Ice Cream Factory
Izzy's may only have one location in St. Paul, but their distribution is extensive throughout the metro at all the co-op's, higher end grocers and restaurants. I doubt they would make this kind of investment without the need for increased production. And besides, their salted caramel ice cream would...

Re: Minneapolis Urban Planning
It would be nice to tackle the sprawl in Twin Cities and one way to do it would be with the creation of a developmental boundary through the Metro Council. Not exactly sure how you would draw those lines being it would be political suicide, but it could be interesting to follow the example Portland ...

There was also a good article on gettingaroundmpls a while back on the project http://gettingaroundmpls.wordpress.com/2012/05/02/access-to-the-regions-chinesehibachi-buffet/ And it looks like they're going to have to do an expensive upgrade to the storm water runoff system to handle all the extra wa...

Re: Minneapolis & St. Paul Fantasies and Speculations
Agreed. After 94 is capped the next best place to go would be 35w from between 26th st and Franklin. A park right there would have some killer views, and do wonderful things for that area.

Re: The Interchange (At Target Field)
I don't think this could be built as part of this project, but I think it would be a great idea if Bottineau gets delayed long-term. The problem I see with it is what's the through routing? What line do you propose this connects to? Have it be an extension of the Hiawatha line, or the Central Corri...

Re: The Interchange (At Target Field)
Not sure if if this belongs in this thread but I feel like this idea is an ugly duckling with nowhere to go... I think a Light Rail extension should be incorporated with the "Interchange" up to Broadway and Lyndale. Wouldn't be that far to go and I doubt it would cost that much to build. T...

Looking through the windows in that last photo, you'd get a pretty good view of some good car accidents from people sliding down that hill in the winter.

Can't we call this a tram line or something other than a streetcar? It won't actually be in a street, after all.
Could call it the Greenway Shuttle

Re: Minneapolis & St. Paul Fantasies and Speculations
I would like to see 1st avenue closed to traffic from 7th st. to 4th st. No one walks on the sidewalks down there anyways, lets take back the street! Great idea IMO, but only for Friday and Saturday night from April to November. I second this! Aside from the 3rd and 4th Steet ramps you could even s...

Re: Bottineau LRT
I would like to propose a solution that could be added to the construction of either the Bottineau, the Southwest light rail line or the Interchange: build a station at Broadway and Lyndale that would connect to the Interchange. I don't think it would be too expensive, could be single tracked most t...
