Re: Mill City Quarter - (300 South 2nd Street)

It's only 1 1/2 miles from the Dinkytown Target Express and less than a mile from the downtown Target. I don't think we'll see that.

Well to be fair if you aren't saving at least 25% off their MSRP you are getting hosed. There is a reason they have sales 88% of the year.

Re: Nighthawks (38th & Nicollet)

It will have an open griddle and counter (ala Nighthawks the painting). The apartments upstairs are being turned into offices as well. The only bummer for me is that they are taking up 3 small business spaces. Hopefully they do great, but if not and they close, we won't have 3 little spaces for smal...

Re: The Nighthawks (38th & Nicollet)

I assume they'll have some Edward Hopper paintings. It says on the sign something about "fun with griddles" and I've been told they'll have a full liquor license. Also on the other side of Five Watt a hair salon is going in.

Re: Vancouver

According to The Economist, Vancouver has the highest cost of living of any city in North America. I'm not sure how heavily transportation costs are weighted in that calculation, but I can't imagine any scenario where Vancouver is cheaper than Minneapolis.

Re: Gateway Corridor

How would a bus/train go to Vadnais Heights, then Maplewood, then WBL? Which corridor are you thinking of here? That could easily be accomplished along the Bruce Vento trail ROW, which has enough space for train and trail to co-exist. That would go to Maplewood and then Vadnais Heights, while matta...

Re: Gateway Corridor

Even if we want to stay in Washington County, I can think of other corridors that are much more valuable from a land user value per acre perspective, usually representative of the kind of walkable urbanism that is compatible with non-parking-lot transit: - Red Rock, at least as BRT, connecting Dayt...

And no mention of Karta Thai opening up like 2 years ago? You mean, before this forum existed? Well, if that means it's off limits then I guess we have to shut down the forum, cuz Mpls has been around a hell of a lot longer than two years. I think he was just saying why would you expect us to talk ...

Great news for those who want to spend $600 on a rain coat. Obviously you are not the target market, but they make fantastic stuff. Breathable, waterproof jackets that will last your lifetime, and stay waterproof and breathable the whole time. If you have the money and participate in such activitie...

Re: Highland Park Target Express

I did, but I have heard potentially otherwise. Maybe it's a third location they're scouting.
They are planning on opening one store in Highland Park next spring and two in San Fran/Berkeley next summer and have no other plans for at least the next year. But maybe its super preliminary scouting.

Re: St. Louis Park - General Topics

Why is West End any more magical than the dozen other major suburban retail/office nodes that we're loathe to extend transit access to? (Somewhat rhetorical -- I know it's sort of a unique condition. But as near as I can tell, the main reason we keep talking about it is because somebody's got a fan...

WHS, I think I agree. Republic Uptown is not a 'fun' place at all. Happy Gnome, Muddy Pig, Devil's Advocate, etc. are far more enjoyable places to be if you are looking for extensive beer list.

Re: St. Louis Park - General Topics

Which makes me wonder... why aren't we talking about building excellent transit to West End? Is it because the plans aren't hypothetical enough?
We just have to tear it all down so there can be enough "potential" development room in the future.

Re: Uptown Restaurant News

A new Short North bar opened up just under a month after I visited (and I'm hitting it up ASAP next time I'm back in town) and a brief glimpse reveals something that you sadly never see opening in Uptown: been here over 2 1/2 years and nothing there has opened that compelled me hang out there. You ...

Re: Farmers Market Soccer Stadium

Campus atmosphere. A college gameday experience is nothing like the NFL experience and trying to do it in an NFL stadium doesn't work. The NFL is far too sterile. Intimacy is important. I think it's kinda funny that in one thread you are lambasting Ann Arbor and Columbus and then here saying that w...

Re: Saints Lowertown Ballpark

Of the parks in the MLB the names are broken down like:

Park: 13
Field: 9
Stadium: 5
Other: 2 (centre and coliseum)

But if we look at those built pre-2000 it changes to:

Park: 3
Field: 7
Stadium: 3
Other: 2

More knowledge from the useless trivia department.

Re: 2316-2320 Colfax Apartments

I think where you are running into opposition here David is that you have stated that SFH's are a good feature but have not explained why they are a good feature. So to people who like apartment buildings just as much as houses, your reasoning looks like "Because I like 'em" which doesn't ...

Suburban schools ARE demonstrably superior -- because of those characteristics. Unfortunately it is not obvious. Many peo...
