Re: Current University of Minnesota Projects

Here's a powerpoint presentation that shows some images of the master plan... The Biomedical District looks like an office park.

Re: 2013 Minneapolis Municipal Election

I guess I was one of those "vocal urbanmsp political analysts" who claimed that. I made a comment that it seemed like Tuthill and Hofstede were having difficulties primarily for other reasons (personality issues, and engaged youth in both wards that want younger, more progressive leadershi...

Re: Current University of Minnesota Projects

min-chi-cbus, yeah, that's probably part of this project. This involves the land near TCF Bank Stadium. This will be the last building that was approved as part of the current phase of the Biomedical Discovery District (the legislature gave the U a bunch of money in 2008 for these projects). They or...

Re: Current University of Minnesota Projects

I saw on the recent Board of Regents agenda that they were discussing schematics for the new microbiology building, which will be the next Biomedical Discovery District building to be constructed (will be adjacent to the new cardiovascular/cancer building). As far as I can tell, this is the last Bio...

Re: The Walkway - (1312 West Lake Street)

Yeah, the rooftop at Amore Victoria is really nice. There's not really a great view of anything, but there was no space for a patio, so the created an outdoor space. I think it opened in summer 2011.

Re: The Walkway - (1312 West Lake Street)

I think Amore Victoria is the only one that's opened since you left.

Drink is now called Uptown Tavern and Rooftop. And I'm sure you meant Uptown Cafeteria and Support Group (instead of Cafe Uptown).

Was it Lillihei? I know there's a Lillihei Heart Institute at the U... would makes sense if they relocate to this cardiovascular building.

Re: Forum Etiquette

For me, part of the frustration is that the project info is mixed in with the discussion. The discussions are usually very informative for me (especially as a non-development professional), but with that being said, it would be helpful if the nuts and bolts project info was separated out from some o...

Re: Mayoral Race

Whoa, that's big... post a link if you remember where you saw that. He also pushed for preserving that Healy house in the Wedge which blocked the nicely designed infill project (2316-2320 Colfax). I find both of those stances surprising for a guy with a master's in urban and regional planning.

Re: Forum Etiquette

Beykite, I agree with your assessment. With so many side conversations going on, relevant project info gets buried (site plans, status, etc). Is there a way to put a summary of each individual project in one easily accessible spot? For instance, if there was a quick blurb about the project, a render...

Re: Westminster Church

In other news, sounds like the Church is trying to liven up the space in front of their newly acquired office building: This Summer, a European style "Piazza on the Mall" is coming to Minneapolis on Nicollet Mall between 12th and 13th Streets (just south of Westminster Presbyterian Church)...

There was funding provided during this legislative session to design and build a new legislative office building on top of a parking lot behind the Capitol (to the north). That will displace 100 parking spaces or so...

Re: Star Tribune Blocks

I completely agree with Twincitizen. It sounds like there is a lack of money for a huge, well programmed park, and there is a lack of willpower to close Park and Portland to create a superblock park. Just create a one-block park, make it great, shut down Park Ave on gamedays to connect the park to t...

Re: MN Secretary of State Election

And former Rep. Jeremy Kalin (DFL-Circle Pines) and Sen. Warren Limmer (R-Maple Grove) and Rep. Joyce Peppin (R-Rogers). Expect a TON of DFLers to enter this race. Very few statewide offices are open right now, so the ambitious-types have nothing to run for. SOS suddenly looks appealing to many of t...

Re: Mayoral Race

Caucuses already happened in April, so that solves that dilemma for you. When you attend caucuses, you have to sign your name to a statement that says the following: I affirm the following are correct statements: 1. I currently reside in the precinct. 2. I will be age 18 or older and will be eligibl...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)

A new article on this very subject: http://www.southwestjournal.com/news/ne ... light-rail

Apparently the suggestion of deep tunneling was brought up as a way to keep freight and SW in the Kenilworth corridor. But that's never going to happen.
