Re: Hennepin Avenue Reconstruction / E Line (Uptown to Downtown)
Hennepin already has a lot of bike traffic. It would be interesting to see some counts, but I'd bet it has more bike traffic than 3rd Ave, and possibly more than 1st or LaSalle, all of which have dedicated lanes. It would be a huge mistake not to have one on Hennepin. It's like the argument people m...

Re: Southside - General Topics
That BK is way to profitable for them to close. Since corporate owns it, we might even see some remodeling to bring it out of the early aughts. There are already multiple interested parties, some of whom are already BK franchisees. There are developer types who are also interested in the property. ...

Re: Southside - General Topics
Anyone know what's going on with the Burger King at Nicollet and 34th? It's been closed for a week now. There's a sign on the door that says it will re-open, but I'm started to think something more might be going on. I haven't seen anyone onsite doing repairs/remodeling (I live nearby). Maybe they ...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis General Topics & Development Map
A 6 story building seems to fit in with what's already built along 9th. Usually I want more height downtown, but this doesn't seem unreasonable. Also, would HCMC have any issues with a tower on this lot? Not sure if that would make it more difficult for helicopters.

"Duplexes ruin the character of the neighborhood!" I'm willing to personally visit the neighborhood of anyone who says this and take pictures of the duplexes that are already there. I'm tempted to do the same on Nextdoor, which is already starting to heat up (odd that it always seems to b...

10k sq ft to replace Asian Taste, Ryan's Pub, Market BBQ, Salsa a la Salsa and Upper Cuts? Is that enough for another five businesses at least or are we repeating south of Nicollet by adding lots more people while simultaneously making the area a lot less walkable? Oh well, just gonna be lots more ...

Disappointing that there are no plans to change that congested nightmare of a skyway corridor. Also, "the forthcoming renovation of The Dayton’s Project which will add several hundred thousand square feet of class B office space." I'm not clear on what exactly the differences are between ...

Re: Nicollet-Central Streetcar
Isn't the "beauty" of a streetcar system that you don't have to do as much prep for laying rails. The cars are much lighter than LRT and there should not be the need to move any underground utilities. They should be able to do the line in considerably less time than an LRT line with less ...

Re: Sons of Norway block redevelopment - 1455 Lake St W
The neighborhood's input should have limited sway over someone else's property rights. If the neighborhood groups demand the end of private property, that would be intriguing. Based on my following of the various Nextdoor threads, it is difficult to hone in one what the opposition is most concerned...

Re: Minneapolis Skyway System
Have people heard how the businesses in the Skyway are doing with the big game? Max's Cafe's owner wrote to the Star Tribune that he was down 20% and Park Cafe in the Government Center is closing on Thursday I think. I'm afraid that the workers are fleeing and the tourists aren't taking their place...

Re: 1500 Nicollet Avenue - Dominium Development - 6 stories / 184 units
They recently installed a fence around the parking lot (Market BBQ's food truck and other vehicles had been parking there until the fence went up), and all the buildings look cleared out now. I take that as a sign that demo is imminent.

Re: Minneapolis Mayoral Election 2017
No one's posted here in over a week? OK... Huge anti-Hodges wave last night. Her chances of picking up enough 2nd/3rd-choice votes are not looking good. I ranked Hodges first, Frey second. I'm 100% fine with Jacob Frey as mayor, but am not sure I'll ever understand the depth of the anti-Hodges wave...

Re: Minneapolis Mayoral Election 2017
I'm going Hodges/NLP/Dehn. I think Hodges or Dehn will win. Frey and Hoch seem to turn off too many people and won't have enough #2 or #3 support to carry them to victory. Betsy certainly has her haters, but I think her support is deeper than many think (especially among regular voters).

Re: Alatus Residential Project - 228 South 12th Street
In regards to the parking, did they mention if any of the total included public parking? If that does include spots that could be used by the paying public, I'm okay with the higher total. Or would there be any other reason Alatus would be aiming so high on this? I'm not sure how these things work,...

Re: Thrivent's Surface Parking Lots
If Thrivent is downsizing, why not lease space in an existing building? If new is a must, why not build office space on the half-block parking ramp they are proposing? Wouldn't that be more cost-efficient (and convenient) for their employees? None of this makes any sense yet. I think they would hav...
