Re: Peavey Plaza reconstruction project

The map is centered on the ritz hotel block. Much of the two blocks of Gateway Park are still greenspace. Perhaps if they built a neoclassical Peavy Plaza it would drive the homeless to the Modernist Gateway. Just to go off topic for a second: Even though I think it's technically ING's property now...

Re: New Target Building - (1001 Nicollet Mall)

Yeah, that wcco building is pretty nice, I don't see why they would need to remove it. The Nicollet was setup to work in that smaller footprint, no reason why some imaginary Target building can't as well.

Re: New Target Building - (1001 Nicollet Mall)

That makes no sense and it never will. There absolutely no logic attached to that. Look up "Braess's Paradox". Adding additional lanes really has no affect on congestion, and can make it worse. Not to mention that additional capacity allows people to sprawl further out, thus creating long...

Re: New Target Building - (1001 Nicollet Mall)

so i had never been up by target's campus in brooklyn park. long story short drove up by there over the weekend for another reason. what a depressing site to see a sprawling block of office buildings surrounding by acres of surface parking. bad on target for choosing to expand way out in an exurb. ...

Re: Southwest LRT

who from outstate goes to saints game? do they even draw anymore? i mean it was ok way back when the twins playing outside seemed like a fantasy. They bring out 5k a year it seems, and there has always been a good turnout whenever I've gone. The one thing that's great about midway stadium is their ...

The SW LRT is going to cost a billion plus, why is anyone upset at losing 14 million? It's 1% of the overall cost...

Re: The Interchange (At Target Field)

I noticed today while entering downtown on the 4th street ramp that there is painted signs on the older structure. Up in the corner clearly said 'Oil Filters'. Other signs weren't readable, but I had no clue the building was that old. Too bad, another one bites the dust.

Re: Lower St. Anthony Falls Whitewater Park

Huge draw? Your definition and mine must be different. I'm not saying it wouldn't be unique and interesting, but I hardly think it would draw a ton of people. I can think of maybe 3 people in my life that would ever even consider going on something like this and I know a lot of people that are outd...

Re: Saint Paul Union Depot

So, they announced the public art grants. I'm pretty disappointed. Half of the artists are out of state, and one of the projects is a large suspended sculpture in the Great Hall. So we painted it ugly colors to match how it was historically, but we're going to hang a giant steel & glass sculptu...

Re: 1368 LaSalle Ave development

^That, and the fact that downtown sits above a large limestone deposit, which is partly why a subway in Minneapolis is going to be nothing more than a pipe dream unless real estate values skyrocket high enough to make such a project financially feasible! I think the limestone layer is mostly ignore...

1949 Star Tribune building dedication and some interior pictures, not sure if any are the lobby: http://forums.e-democracy.org/groups/mpls/files/f/3512-2012-04-05T164311Z/startrib1949.pdf The facade is probably of some value, particularly the 6 stone medallions they show close up. AGREED!!! This is the most important thing. The 40's Strib building is AMAZING, and could be converted into something great. Anyone have interior pictures of the star trib building? I can't seem to find any searching online. Is there anything of particular interest on the inside, like the lobby, or...

Re: Vikings Stadium

Looking at an overhead shot from a pdf on the vikings website, it's probably going to be the block of the LRT station, then the block across 4th, then from there the partial block across chicago, and then the partial block across norm mcgrew pl. Either way, open public space > empty surface lots. I ...

Re: City Place Lofts - 730 Hennepin Avenue

Reading over city council agendas lately, the Heritage Preservation Committee will be discussing this building (on Aug. 7th) and it's nomination to the nation register of historic places.
