Re: Nicollet Mall

The architecture on on the 16th St Mall is no match for Nicollet. For what that is worth.

Re: Future cars / Driverless cars

He called a guy who saved a bunch of kids a pedo because he made fun of his dumb rocket booster submarine/coffin. The Tesla Model S is a pretty neat $80K car, but most $80K cars are pretty neat. Somehow they are building 5000 model 3s a week but no where near that many are being registered. He is a ...

Asking your suppliers to pay you back profits they've already booked because you're running out of cash: a normal thing that non-distressed companies do all the time. https://www.wsj.com/articles/tesla-asks-suppliers-for-cash-back-to-help-turn-a-profit-1532301091 You seem to have an axe to grind re...

The only thing more unnecessarily expensive than Common Law country transit projects are defense contractor projects. SpaceX has done well because unlike all the other players SpaceX wasn't trying to grift at every opportunity. Nothing special, just ran by a rich guy who thinks space is cool. Tesla ...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis General Topics & Development Map

I feel like Finnegans has done alot to make this area more of a neighborhood. It might just be me but a local watering hole is a nice amenity haha.
So true. I probably would have stayed at Grant Park if I knew Finnegans was going to happen.

Re: The Commons - Downtown East Park

New residents can't come soon enough to this area. On an absolutely beautiful Saturday evening I counted exactly zero people in the Commons. I have also heard that the new Wells Fargo building is loathed by the workforce. All the inconvenience of working downtown, with little of the benefit.

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

Southwest LRT makes a heavily pedestrian/transit focused Hennepin Ave redo more likely. I never thought of it this way, it is a great point. I am in the camp of Minneapolis, outside of the CBD, has plenty of surface ROW to make an excellent transit system. People lament the fact that there isn't po...

Re: City living trends and predictions

They already use streetview. It is not enough, the streetview images have to be manually referenced to LIDAR data. Google themselves admit they have no ideas on how that process could be automated.

Re: City living trends and predictions

Waymo has pay people to rectify images and data collected from LIDAR. It is a time consuming task that has to constantly performed as cities are dynamic. A concern would be the owners of maps lobbying cities to prevent them and land owners from making modifications that would inconvenience the owner...

Who knows? Back in 1970s when autonomous vehicle testing began the timeline to full automation was estimated to be 10 years.

There are people who have paid Tesla $3,500 for a self-driving mode that doesn't exist. PT Barnum had a famous saying in regards to people like that.

Re: City living trends and predictions

Waymo has figured that if you manually map all possible areas where a autonomous will travel, a vehicle can be okay, albeit slower than a normal taxi. Do I foresee entire cities being manually mapped and then constantly updated by Waymo? No. Impossible to know if they are anywhere near being profita...
