Re: Thrivent Headquarters Block - 6th St and Portland Ave

And downtown daycares should strongly be encouraged if you want to continuing bringing more residents in.
I just asked if the first floor was appropriate. Nobody’s talking about banning daycare downtown.
Did I say you were? No.

First floor is absolutely appropriate for a daycare /thread.

Re: Thrivent Headquarters Block - 6th St and Portland Ave

Is daycare a good use for a first floor? As opposed to a second or higher floor? Yes. Imagine trying to evacuate a daycare with infants and toddlers using stairs verses a door straight to the sidewalk. This. And downtown daycares should strongly be encouraged if you want to continuing bringing more...

Right. Odds are that connection exists to allow maintenance, not general use.
It is.

Re: Road Geek Topics

Idk if Metro Transit can afford all the tickets they'd get. I always find it interesting how many buses I see running red lights and blocking the box, especially on 6th as they cross Marquette. And yes, traffic was extra bad yesterday but it was directly related to the Twins game and the time...

If the Hennepin Ramp didn't have a lot of it's parking chewed up by the Maverick, it would probably be totally adequate. That ramp used to have an overabundance of capacity, but I'm told that there is now a waitlist for monthly parking. They did raise rates recently, so that may open up some space.

Also, my (maybe wrong) understanding is that many of the new apartment projects (the Archive, 310 Lofts) with oversized garages will be providing public parking in them, like a couple of the buildings in Uptown do. I know Archive will have 1 floor dedicated to outside parking. The original intent w...

Re: Foundry Mixed-Use Development - 115-125 1st St N, 128 2nd St N, 128 1st Av N

If people are circling around the block trying to find an available parking spot, then the price of parking is too low. That's a basic Donald Shoup principle. While that is part of the problem one of the bigger issues is lack of enforcement for vehicles staying in a spot for multiple time durations...

It would be great if someone would come up with an appropriate way to dress the two exposed ends of the parking ramp.
Tearing it down completely and building buildings at both ends would do the trick.
It would have been nice if they didn’t attach the damn thing to the Maverick apartment

Re: City of Minneapolis Office Building - 501 4th Ave S - 11 stories / 171'

Sadly, a worker fell this afternoon here. I went for a walk and 6th was closed with a firetruck trying to access the victim. Prayers. They were using a firetruck to lift him out of the pit, he was alert and moving but his lower body was immobilized. Hopefully it's something relatively minor, not a ...

looks like it'll cost 850K to get your foot in the door. 1,400 sq ft, 1 bed plus den with southeast view.
Suddenly a lot of the other downtown places look affordable

Nope, no tower cranes onsite yet, just a truck crane & pile driver. They're working on foundation supports against the old Foster building.

Re: Stadium Parking Ramp Development Site

I thought the point of this ramp was that they would actually build *on top* of the ramp itself, and not just on the skinny lot next to it? Does anyone else remember this or am I making up memories? That was the plan, the ramp was built for it and as of last year the architect confirmed they had re...

Again—I'm not saying the city should deny all of these buildings unless they get rid of all their parking, rah rah rah. I know that's just not politically feasible. But I am saying that I think a lot of these buildings would do fine with 10%-20% less parking or maybe one fewer level of structured u...

Initial marketing is online for this project -- 'Second & Second' -- https://secondandsecond.com It's mostly to get ahead of the retail leasing. Being advertised are spaces 1,000-14,000 square feet. Here is the brochure . In the brochure it says "future boutique hotel" where the old f...

Re: North Loop Neighborhood

Solhem has been reducing parking ratios on their own at their more recent downtown/NL projects, like OX-OP and Borealis, after finding that they just couldn't manage to rent more than about .9 spaces per unit (for projects like this, I'm sure the Eleven will manage to sell every spot they build). S...
