Re: Green Line (Central)
Lots of onlookers, even someone with a nice tripod video camera setup (someone on here?). I would not be surprised in the least if it was Mr. Sheldon Gitis. He has a habit of showing up and recording video without permission. Obviously this is a public place but he's come to events organized by var...

Re: Opus Dinkytown Project - (14th Avenue SE & 5th Street SE
Personally, I don't agree with opening this to a public hearing. Sufficient public comment was taken from both sides at the Planning Commission meeting. What's the point in wasting everyone's time allowing folks to repeat themselves? Council members have access to video recording and the minutes fr...

Sheldon is a well-known complainer. Best to just ignore him.this is parochialism at it's finest.

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)
but there should be a legal contingency line in the budget, and alternatives with more takings should have a larger number in this line than alternatives with fewer takings. So this should be reflected in the estimated costs of the alternatives. Should. This is another question to ask at the CAC. T...

Re: The Walkway - (1312 West Lake Street)
I can't wait to visit the Twin Cities again! It's been over a year and yet SO MUCH has changed since I've last visited! The change in Uptown is just tremendous. It is finally becoming the place I hoped it would when I bought my house nine years ago. Yes, Cheapo is the next site to the east. Though ...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)
Thanks for the clarification panda. redesciple, the cost is not just in the actual takings. The legal fees are extraordinary.
I haven't heard anything about delays in the project, at least not at the open houses.

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)
From the Met Council's press release: Thanks for that. Somehow I had averaged the cost of a full shallow tunnel and a shorter one. :-/ I still think $80 million is reasonable to avoid lawsuits and delays. It should be an interesting CAC meeting. I'd like to have a robust discussion around the short...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)
it is a really nice park space and bike corridor. this line just shows how difficult it is to jerryrig transportation into established neighborhoods. The thing I don't get is - the purpose of the shallow tunnel is to avoid impacting the park space & bike corridor, right? But that's specific to ...

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure
I checked out Lady bird trail in Austin. I actually like rocking the crushed limestone paths, I wonder if there are any spots we could implement in the TC to reduce the impact and maintenance costs of pure paved. Might not really work out well given our landscape with plowing, though. Aren't the Lu...

IIt's obvious where the old section is, where the U expanded with the Mall, and stuff since then expanding along Washington. Northrop and Coffman perfectly frame the Mall area as a great sense of place, I agree with all of this. The Knoll is a fantastic place and the Mall works well and will be eve...

A very thorough article in F&C today regarding the dearth of condo development and how it's not likely to spark another boom any time soon: http://finance-commerce.com/2013/07/despite-dearth-no-condo-boom-in-site/ (free) The article focuses on downtown but I fully expect some of the luxury apar...

Re: Pleasant St and Pillsbury Dr Roundabout
University & 4th aren't within the boundaries of campus.. they serve the residential/commercial areas that border it. I'd like to see calming there but closing them down would be a mistake, especially with Washington Ave now being closed to through traffic where it abuts campus on either side. ...

Re: Nicollet-Central Corridor
Regardless, the article isn't too far off-base. While I'm excited for any transit improvements (and a streetcar necessitates certain transit amenities that improve the experience), I'm not sure that this corridor/technology is a total slam dunk for improving mobility/access, but more the typical ar...

Re: Pleasant St and Pillsbury Dr Roundabout
=actually, now that I think about it, I've felt that the streets around campus should really be treated as shared space, since there's a high proportion of pedestrian, bike, and other traffic (rollerbladers, skateboarders, mopeds, wheelchairs if you want to categorize them separately). The pre-stop...

Re: The Penfield - (101 10th Street East)
Building another Galtier wouldn't have helped make a neighborhood as much as setting the framework for 4 or 5 of these at the north end of St. Paul near the LRT and neighborhood amenities. Agreed. Just out of curiosity, what does "north end" refer to? I ask because most of Lowertown a blo...

Re: Blue Line (Hiawatha)
I live near the 50th Street/Minnehaha Park Station. Over the weekend I noticed that the trains now make a new sound when in motion. I thought maybe I was just hearing the new trains, and just hadn't noticed it before. But while riding downtown (on an old set of trains) on Saturday night, it was qui...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)
Tom Lowry built rail literally out to empty fields for God's sake. And that was part of the downfall of TCRT... as they built lines further out, trip times and operational costs increased at a higher rate and ridership increased at a lower rate due to lower density in the latter areas of the street...

[So much has been said that's been untrue What, exactly? I'm honestly curious here because I can't think of anything official said that's been an outright lie. Some estimates were off but that's to be expected. 10% is really not bad in engineering terms for such a large project, especially since th...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)
And what's the point in building transit to serve businesses who decided not to locate in areas near transit? Doesn't it seem to legitimize the way we've subsidized auto-centric growth for three generations? So we should not have built Hiawatha to MoA? C'mon, this is getting ridiculous. New York do...

Read the studies. It's all there for you.i want to hear, specifically about this claim-Right now we're going to Eden Prairie because we know the jobs are there and there is a lot of development potential (read, "surface parking.").
