In the Loop just replaced 708 deli, which I thought of as more of a coffee shop so I'd argue that was a 1:1 swap. I noticed they were open until 7pm last night which seemed late for a coffee shop in that location (zero customers) - hopefully they can make it work. I heard the owners also run the Dunn Bros on Washington in the Dock Street Flats.

I can absolutely assure you that the owner of In the Loop has nothing to do with the franchisee owner of North Loop Dunn Bros. Also, once all expenses are accounted for, the average profit margin for a coffee shop is something like 3-5% There are a lot more costs than that of the coffee beans!

Sure, there are lots of other costs associated with running any business. But if you're selling a small cup of drip coffee for $2.50 a pop and only making 3% profit, you've got some problems with your business model.

Location is probably more important to coffee shops than to most businesses, so they probably pay a premium overall for their locations (especially given the size of the average working-space coffee shop). I imagine that could eat into those profits pretty quickly.

That's what I was thinking....that's less than grocery stores yield!

Oh come on.. Are we seriously going to get into a debate about coffee pricing?

Come on, Grant. Are you going to decide what we can and can't have a ridiculous debate about?

Same, but "too much" is any amount. So actually coffee is bad.

Grant, drink that shit while you are in school now. Soon the smell of them will bring back memories of all-nighters studying or writing for school. No one wants to be reminded of cramming for an exam on integrals, sedimentary rock, or Charlemagne.

Why buy coffee when black tea will do? Except when the deals are this good.

A new coffee shop opened called "In the Loop Coffee Co." at 708 1st St N.

https://www.facebook.com/Intheloopcoffeeco/

North Loop has gone from 3 coffee places last summer (One on One, Dunn Bros, Corner Coffee)

to 7 (Spyhouse, Bachelor Farmer Cafe, Caribou, In the Loop)
Plus Corner Coffee. And then there's Moose & Sadie's and Be'Wiched depending on how loosely we're playing with definitions.

Just saw an email that HCMC is opening a clinic and pharmacy in North Loop's TractorWorks building (800 Washington Ave N).

Nice to see more services trickling to that side of the neighborhood.

Interesting. A couple months ago I took a survey about what I would want in a clinic in the North Loop area. I am pretty sure that was from Park Nicollet and Health Partners though, so maybe there will be two coming to the area now...
