Thanks Grant for those pics. I'm surprised that they did an open staircase with our winters. But I do like the Light and dark contrast of the siding that they have used. Works great next to the Brumfield next door. Will have to do a bike ride next week to the NL and check the area out again. It has been a few months since I was that far west when I have gone thru the area.

Here's a pic of the Fast Horse building I took last weekend.
Was in Gardner Hardware earlier today and they're closing up shop. Asked if they knew what was replacing the store and they didn't know. Said the building hadn't been sold yet.

Seriously just rode by this yesterday thinking i hope that Gardner stays open just a few more years. Then I saw it on loopnet last night and got a little sad.

I hear you. I tried to patronize the store as much as I could when I needed anything they might stock. It's a bummer to lose retail like this b/c I don't see anything like it coming DT/warehouse in the near future.
Some good counter points to people who have complained on this board about the HERC ruining the neighborhood.

Curious, I read about them creating electricity, but I'm pretty sure HERC helps with the district steam heat too. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. That in itself would be a very big part of the carbon neutral aspect I would think.

That's correct. It's tied into the district heat system for downtown. I've heard that they're looking at extending the system further into the North Loop as well.

The NRG website does not show the HERC as a steam plant, probably because they don't operate it as part of the district energy system. But they do receive steam from it. Here's a video produced by the county about HERC. But it sure seems like greenwashing when you measure amounts of ferrous metals recovered in the waste stream in units of "hybrid cars."

Many people complain about HERC's location detracting from the north loop, but as far as district energy sites go we have it way better than St. Paul.

Herc actually isn't part of the district energy system at least according to the district's map. It does provide heat to Target Field. your point about St Paul's river front plant is very much valid though.
