Velo Apartments - (103 Second Street North)
Re: Velo Apartments - (103 Second Street North)
What I do really like about this rendering is the Blue on the Tower that fronts N. Second. It's not tall, or crazy, but I think that serves a good beacon to people on Hen that might venture into the North Loop without knowing what the neighborhood is like. Right now if you look down Second it's a little drab and uninviting, that seems to say "come this way, it's nice in here" lol

A beautiful design that complements the 222 project nearby. Can't wait to watch its construction!

Is this going to cover the whole block or just a portion?
The problem with being an introvert online is that no one knows you're just hanging out and listening.

Article goes on to say construction will start in April 2013 and open about spring 2014, a few months before Nic on Fifth.Opus moves ahead with Velo apartments

Q. What, what? A. In da butt.
Re: Velo Apartments - (103 Second Street North)
^That's my landlord! But the Strib article says Opus is still the developer, Sentinel will just manage it once it's open.

MSP BJ (heh) reports that this one will break ground this week.
Re: Velo Apartments - (103 Second Street North)
Great to see this project get started. Arguably, one of the best apartment developments to go up in terms of design , and I like their marketing idea of paying homage to Minneapolis' dynamic urban bike culture. The developer definitely "gets it" with this one.
Re: Velo Apartments - (103 Second Street North)
This is on the top of my "favorites list". The design is still a little too "normal", but definitely ahead of the curve.
Re: Velo Apartments - (103 Second Street North)
The design is good/decent, but the best part of this project is that it makes it so that someone might actually WANT to walk N of Washington on 1st avenue. It has a great street presence there. (unlike it's new neighbor who decidedly neglects 1st, but hopefully Whole Foods will have an entrance or at lease glassy-ness on this corner too).
Re: Velo Apartments - (103 Second Street North)
this is one of my favorites also. it's similar to a lot of the new stuff, but looks to be more urbane and sophisticated. bringing new life to that stretch of 1st.
Re: Velo Apartments - (103 Second Street North)
From a distance I just observed Merit surrounded by Jersey barriers (ped detours?) and crawling with burly men in reflective yellow. It appears that doings are afoot. MSP BJ got a head of the crowd on this one.
"Who rescued whom!"

I'm hoping they are going to open up a nice bike/repair shop here. We need one downtown!

John, check out One on One. It's right around the corner from here at 117 N Washington http://www.oneononebike.com/
We might need one on the other end of downtown, but not here.

There's also Alley cat Cycles by Loring Park. Elliot Park or downtown east needs one though.
