The pictures sure make this building more bulky then I first thought. Is this a standard city block size? As much as I wanted a highrise on this block, I will say so far what I see, I like.

I have to say, it's funny seeing people's 180 degree turn on the perspective of this project: from utter hatred a few months ago to almost admiration now! But hey, there's nothing wrong about being passionate about what goes into your city, right?
Re: 222 & Whole Foods - (222 Hennepin Avenue)
I was about 60% on board and have slid to about 45%. I'm not really digging the cave-like rooftop courtyard and whatever they're doing to make all the units have window exposure. It seems awkward, clunky and convoluted. Maybe when those cornice tower things start to rise, it will start to look better.

I'm less of a fan than I was. I was more happy about getting *anything* on that vacant lot I think -- and the Whole Foods, of course. Now, whenever I pass this thing, I am quite underwhelmed.

The upside of a new building should not simply be that it is relacing a building that was an eyesore, there should be...more. I'm not even asking for the 'wow factor' that the Magellan tower has, just something that would differentiate this building from every other 5 or 6 story building built in the last 5 years. (I know it has Whole Foods, I'm talking more appearance than anything else.)

It has those tower thingys...I will wait to see how those turn out and how the outside looks when it is done for final judgement. I am sure it will look fine.

Corner of Hennepin and Washington. It has a massive presence.

Totally, It no projects a half block farther than anything on the west side of Hennipen [sic] from the river past 3rd... it's almost like there is nothing around it... MOAR buildings please!

Re: 222 & Whole Foods - (222 Hennepin Avenue)
While they seem to be using some good materials, this like so many others is going to look really busy when its done. The whole rear wall it littered with little vents, magipaks, hanging balconies and confusing window placements. It fills a void, and is scaled well for the street, but the level of overall design seems low on the 2nd street facade.
Q. What, what? A. In da butt.
Re: 222 & Whole Foods - (222 Hennepin Avenue)
Some of the vertical metal paneling (on the upper floors at the corners) of the complex already looked warped last time I walked by. While I like the look, it's already not aging well. I hope they at least replace the warped panels to create a more even surface.

Hmmm, I'm no expert that's for sure...but my impression is....cheap windows.....ugly brickwork...too many different materials on the exterior.....Can someone smarter than me explain why so many new apartment buildings take the approach of mixing different materials, textures, color shades to develop the exterior? If the goal is to save money, wouldn't one ugly surface be better than four mixed together?

Probably cause they're trying to look trendy, and they're being cheap because they're building apartments.

True, it is not even close to 1000 feet, even if they added a spire.
