I used to work for Amtrak in the corporate office upstairs as a law clerk, so I have various memories of Union Station, but we didn't get over to where Sbarro is/was so I don't know.

The former Forum, aka Goodfellows, aka Il Foro, will soon become David Fhima's home for Bistro 373 as he decamps from the Galtier.

Rick Nelson's article... http://www.startribune.com/chef-david-f ... 437384243/
Another update on Fhima's redo of the old Forum space. He's spending a lot of money, but it sounds like the changes he's making make good sense. Plus it's good to read that the kitchen is already being used for baking bread for his Target Center catering contracts. Late spring/early summer opening planned.

Awesome. That intersection is so depressing right now with all four corner spaces vacant.

While that place sounds awful, at least something is going in.

There is a deal in place to sell the Solera building.
On the one hand, there's a new lounge opening up in the Solera space, which is unambiguously better than an empty storefront.

On the other hand... It's gonna be a Jack Links.

Saw that. As someone who loves some jerky from time to time this makes, ....no sense.

The new establishment is one of several ways Jack Link's is building its visibility in downtown Minneapolis. Last month, the Wisconsin-based jerky purveyor opened a retail store in the renovated Target Center, its first in the country. This month, Jack Link's employees are starting to move into new offices in Mayo Clinic Square next door to the arena and a few blocks from the Orpheum.

Jack Link's also plans to open a restaurant in Mayo Clinic Square, but details are still pending.
So, 3 Jacks Links "inspired" retail or restaurant establishments and the office space in a few square blocks? That seems a bit... much. Should we scrap the WeDo branding and go with JacksLinksTown?

I'd love to know what they paid for the Mayo Square renovations. They've been tearing apart the first level of the parking garage for what seems like a year now.

Really? I didn't realize they were doing anything to the garage levels.

It's all been in the ceiling. I assume they're doing a bunch of wiring for the new first level spaces? Either way, it's been a mess down there for a long time with a lot of crews and equipment doing work.

I'd like to see the Masa spot filled in soon, but first I'd like to see the three storefronts it takes up split into to three separate storefronts. Nicollet Mall needs a lot more destinations.

Seems like they're asking for a legal smackdown, but I guess QuikTrip and Kwik Trip have stores much closer together than the 400 miles this will be from the nearest Waffle House.

By my last check, closest real Waffle House is Liberty, MO or St. Joseph, MO. Really wish they'd make it farther north.

Basil's space is now Jolliet House, open for breakfast only.

http://www.startribune.com/mary-tyler-m ... 468851173/

I've never been in the space. The balcony always seems hidden when I'm walking by, or at least I never seem to notice it up there. Even more so now that the banners and awning have been removed and it all blends in. Even if I did want to visit, I have no idea how to get up there. It seems like a cool space with a lot of potential.

Apparently these guys are feeling pretty confident in their lawyers.

The guys opening the Downtown Waffle House (not affiliated with the Waffle House) are also opening a nightclub called Maxim Playhouse (not affiliated with Maxim the magazine) in the old Army Surplus store at 4th and 1st and a western bar called Coyote Pretty (not associated with the movie Coyote Ugly) next door.

devil's advocate to take over the former masa space! I'm not sure the space fits the vibe but I hope they pull it off!

Wonderful!

Agreed that it seems to have a few too many windows for the old DA vibe, but I guess covering up the windows would both fix that and make the space fit in with the rest of the mall... ;)
