I think they look like mustaches. I think building mustaches are an underutilized feature for a reason.

So is this project a go, cancelled, waiting on city approvals, or lining up financing? Anyone heard anything on this lately??

Walked by again today and saw no activity. I guess this is a cancelled project.

The site plan review states:
All site improvements shall be completed by June 15, 2017
I'm a total armchair urbanist, but there's still plenty of time to get started to meet that deadline isn't there?

Then they must be waiting for construction crews to end other work, still getting finances in order, or just like to cut it close. But I guess this should only take 14 months so they have some time to sit on their hands. I sure hope they don't run into any unexpected lead paint, asbestos, or other project delaying unknown.

Or they might just be sadists who like to watch urbanists squirm?

Also not to be confused with the Holiday Inn Express conversion proposed for 317 2nd Ave. Anyone know if construction ever began on that one?
Busy hotel developers plan first downtown Minneapolis project

*LOCKED*

The two firms have a purchase agreement to buy a vacant, eight-story office building at 317 Second Ave. S. They plan to renovate existing space to accommodate 125 rooms and build an addition in the back parking lot in order to operate 75 more.

The firms are buying the 118-year-old skyway-connected William E. McGee Building from Willmar-based TPI Hospitality. TPI bought the building in 2015 with aims at making it a Holiday Inn Express & Suites, but the plan never came to fruition.

JR Hospitality and Hawkeye Hotels hope to get on a Minneapolis Planning Commission agenda in November and start construction in early spring, with a 12-month buildout, Bhakta said.

This block might change a lot in the long-term when the city puts their properties on the market. It'll be great if we could get a skyway connection over to the Opus towers from here.

317 2nd Ave S. This thing won't die. It'll be the first Home2 in downtown.

That's the group that's building the Home2Suites in Eagan (adjacent to the outlet mall) as well.

Home2 has possibly the worst hotel logo of all budget brands.

There's construction signage in the windows, and the back parking lot has been fenced off. This might finally be starting!?
