Western Container Building/Arctic Cat HQ - 500 3rd Street N
Re: Western Container Building - 500 3rd Street North
Schwan's foods is headquartered in Marshall MN but their marketing and legal is here in town, Marvin Windows is still "headquartered in Warroad but their owners and management team is here in the suburbs... Hormel maintains legal and other management teams in the cities... It is too hard to find or relocate some types of professionals to smaller communities. This announcement is surprising... I really thought they were going to loft spaces for that building.

Polaris is firing on all cylinders these days. They now own Indian Motorcycles and Brammo's electric business (in addition to their Victory Motorcycle line), plus last fall's introduction of the Slingshot. They also recently bought Hammerhead go-carts and Timbersled snow bikes. Their other products include GEM and Goupil electric motorcars, Aixam cars in Europe and just introduced Multix cars in India.... Polaris used to focus largely on snowmobiles but then moved to ATV's to boost their image and then went back over to snowmobiles. We don't know the whole game plan of Arctic Cat.

They were pouring cement somewhere in the building as I walked by. Heard hammers banging away also. Glad that this building is finally moving forward. It might have windows in it this winter!!

Windows have started being installed at the Western Container Building/Arctic Cat headquarters.

The existing loading dock structure has been completely ripped out and you can see into the basement passing by. I guess it was too unsound to repair and they'll completely redo it. Going by their renders they'll still have this architectural feature though which is nice to see from a historic preservation perspective.

This was surprising to me when I walked past last night, so I took a pic. It was pretty unsecured - anyone could have done some basement exploring (I didn't...this is from the street ).The existing loading dock structure has been completely ripped out and you can see into the basement passing by. They look to have most of the windows in for the upper floors except for 3 that will probably be used for dump chutes on the south end. The ground floor will probably be boards until the end of the 1st quarter. They are rebuilding the loading dock now, not sure if they are using part of the space under it for storage or mechanical.
Modist Brewing across the street was putting in new sidewalks along 5th ave. The exterior is looking cleaned up. Not sure what is with the pink sections showing up in some of the windows. Has anyone heard an opening date for them?
Once these building are renovated that will really energize that intersection. Now they have to figure out what to do with that large parking lot on the empty remaining corner.

Re: Western Container Building - 500 3rd Street North
Modist expected to be open in late December/early January. The date was dependent on their equipment delivery; it wasn't expected until late November. We've been guessing that those window panes filled with pink insulation(?) board may be open-able, and they're just waiting for those materials to be delivered. They look to have most of the windows in for the upper floors except for 3 that will probably be used for dump chutes on the south end. Great pic, wondered how they would get that up. Looks like steel instead of wood for the addition.

I assume the brick exterior on the addition will match the original brick?

All the renderings have black metal paneling.I assume the brick exterior on the addition will match the original brick?
Re: Western Container Building/Arctic Cat HQ - 500 3rd Stree
It looks like the original portion has black mullions and the new addition has silver mullions.? Went back and found the drawings and it looks like they are all supposed to be black. It looks pretty odd to me right now. Hope the silver is covered over completely when the windows are installed.
