I often think people would learn a lot about just how "convenient" their cars are (and just how "safely" they drive) if they'd spend some time travelling around on a bike.Definitely. I already understood how stroads were bad for the urban form (I live on Portland and 46th), but that bike trip really opened my eyes to how poorly they handle car traffic even.

I posted this in the downtown development thread because the point is how our streetscapes have a real and negative effect on the type of development we get downtown (even the Nicollet Hotel Block). The article, among many others, makes the link between car sewers and depressed land uses alongside them. If we want downtown to develop at a human scale, we need our streets to be designed at a human scale.

And also speaking of depressed values and Park/Portland, I think the conversion of Park and Portland to two-lane streets with cycletracks helped the property values north of 46th and all the way to downtown. I'd love to see them as two-way though.I posted this in the downtown development thread because the point is how our streetscapes have a real and negative effect on the type of development we get downtown (even the Nicollet Hotel Block). Re: Downtown Minneapolis General Topics & Development Map
RE: finding a near-Downtown site for a semi-regional concert venueI really enjoyed the set-up for Stone Arch Festival there as well, but I don't think it's big enough for what MNdible is envisioning. I think a semi-permanent set-up would be nice there to hold more small/medium-size events. Long-term though, if we want a premier regional outdoor venue that isn't Harriet Island in St. Paul, it probably would have to be at Boom IslandI'd like to see it at Water Power Park (Hennepin Island). They set up one of the stages there for the Stone Arch festival last summer and it seemed to work pretty well.
Rock the Garden will be held at Boom Island this year, which should be an excellent experiment to see how this could play out

Looks like we should see some more condo projects in the next year or two if this is to be believed. Hope so.

Is this a law that is unique to Minnesota? Many real estate agents and developers continue to cite state law, which makes condo developers liable for building defects for 10 years, as a deterrent for the construction of new projects.

What may be unique is the cottage industry of lawsuit specialists over this in the state.

Walking by 10th and Park the other day and noticed that the parking lot there on the corner east of Skyscape is now fenced off with several construction trailers on it. Anyone know what is going on with them? Are they part of the HCMC Medical Clinic construction project or something else?

So is this just the church site, or will it include the empty space where the freestanding skyway to the convention center is also? WOuld be nice to get that piece of property up to a full potential.Site next to Hotel Ivy available for development.

Whole half block is up for sale. They say they hope to identify a buyer by February.

There's a slim possibility that the Ivy Blank Wall may not be visible in the foreseeable future? Huzzah!

Re: Downtown Minneapolis General Topics & Development Map
Wasn't there some press not terribly long ago indicating the current owners of the 1022 Hennepin lot were more than happy to keep it as a parking lot for some time? Just blowing smoke I guess. Anyways, good news.
Re: Downtown Minneapolis General Topics & Development Map
With how quickly all of this is turning around I wonder if there are already things going on behind the scenes. It's ready for something now. Please.

Yes, this is actually pretty surprising since most MVP REITs parking lots that they've purchased have usually stayed as parking lots. We're lucky.

I'm guessing something is in the works. Unless the parking operation is cashflowing in the red - and I doubt it is - why would you close a parking placeholder before selling a lot?
