My bad guys, I thought yesterday was the 21st... Coffee on me?
Re: Downtown Minneapolis General Topics & Development Map
Apparently someone finally noticed that our good friends Bobby and Steve tore down a historic building for surface parking in direct violation of city ordinance... so they would like to build a public plaza on the portion closest to Washington. Still illegal surface lot expansion on the site of the outbuildings behind.

I'm still bitter that they tore the building down, but this plaza will get used by nobody ever.

"Hey, you guys wanna hang out in the parking lot of the gas station next to the freeway?"

Re: Downtown Minneapolis General Topics & Development Map
I remember the discussion, and wish they hadn't torn it down...but the building wasn't designated, was it? If so, why did the city approve the demolition? I think the only thing they proposed against code was expanding a surface lot...

Staff recommended denial and further study. HPC approved based on alterations to existing structure.
As for demo before site plan review, some think it's a 'home run' for getting approvals. In this case, not.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis General Topics & Development Map
Yes, lame. At this point, they would be better off developing a small building on the lot that could at least generate revenue. And that would be better for all of us.

It seems odd they wouldn't use that space for storm water processing/ storage of any kind. Strangely, they only pay 4,850 in storm water drainage fees per year between the 4 parcels. Note the 'plaza' has no lighting scheduled. It will make a great spot for a Krazy Kustomer Kar Dayz Tent Event.

Clearly nothing spectacular or it would have gotten more press.

This is such a puzzling business concept to me. The Twin Cities has arguably the best running scene in the country. Why would you not want to go run on the hundreds of miles of trails within our borders. I dunno, I'm just a running purist. Suppose if people pay hundreds of dollars a month for indoor cycling, people will pay the same for running on the $5000 treadmills that they're going to use.

Yep, that, plus rain, heat, etc.
That pricing seems ridiculous, though, even if it does include specialized training. I can do all the running and weights I want at my $35/month gym; even at the introductory rate, it's still three almost three times that just for one month.

I moved the comments about the Oakland Apartments fire and possibilities for the surrounding block to this thread: https://forum.streets.mn/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=4147

Thought this was an interesting read. Looks like this must have been the location of the Gay 90's, which apparently isn't as old as I would have guessed.
EDIT: Yeah, it shows up better in this plat map. Orthogonal to nothing.
