I think the zip line is a pretty fun idea. $30 is a little steep (especially since it was $10 in Indianapolis). But I’ll probsbly still do it. Picking the right day will be important, but hard to know in advance.

I saw a tweet that did some back of the envelope math and suggested an effective wind chill of -15°F, assuming still air and am actual temp of 20°. Which is cold, but it's also going to be like a 30 second experience. I'll do it, is what I'm saying.

I saw in the Star Tribune that United Healthcare passed 200bn in revenue. I really with by some miracle they'll decide to build a 800' tower downtown given that they're one of the businesses based here most able to pull it off.

What suburban MSP corporation has the oldest headquarters?

As far as I know, UH and GM have recently expanded or refreshed their suburban offices, so it's unlikely that either would move into the city any time soon.

I believe you're right. Maybe Optum or a portion of UH would go Downtown? I could see SWLRT hurting/helping this. What is the status of Cargill and Carlson? I know Carlson sold off a portion. We need companies growing and searching for workers in the Downtown area.

Yeah, it's been noted that the hotel branch of the Carlson companies was sold off to a Chinese company, and is looking to relocate their HQ within the metro. I'd wager that they're downtown's best bet.

General Mills, no way. They've got too much synergy with all of their labs and fully built out campus in Golden Valley. It would never work in a downtown location. And United Health has a similar problem -- they're just too big to move. Too many employees, too much space.

I'll take a Carlson tower. I'm hoping the city takes more leadership in bringing more jobs Downtown and making it easier for employers to expand an locate here. It seems like part of this should be better connections to the U of M and etc since Universities are where many future workers are coming from. There also should be some thought put into replacing Target in case they stumble hard when the next recession comes.

According to this article, a condition of the sale is that Carlson Hospitality’s headquarters will stay in Minnetonka. Maybe things have changed since then.

This is a more recent article.
While the company is committed to keeping the hotel group headquartered in the Twin Cities, it is exploring options for a new location.

“It’s kind of like the little bird stepping out of the nest,” said Josh Hoffman, executive vice president and chief human resources officer at Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group. “We are not part of the Carlson family anymore. It’s difficult to break away from that image when we have that in our name, when we have that in our location, when we have that in the building that we sit in.”

I work for CWT, the 'other' Carlson company. Unfortunately, I'd say Carlson Rezidor is highly unlikely to be building a new tower downtown or anything of the sort. They'd likely just rent office space somewhere. They currently only occupy about four or five floors in one of the Carlson Towers. So, even if they did build something, it wouldn't be anything significant.

Maybe they'll take the space RBC is leaving vacant?

Sorry, yeah, I wasn't implying that they'd build a new tower (or even necessarily move downtown) -- just that of the companies listed that might move downtown, they seemed like the only likely contender.

I assume that HNA Group, the buyer of the Carlson Hotels division, would move the staff to 33 South Sixth since they own the building. Makes sense to fill their own building instead of leasing from someone else.

Woooooow.

All I've heard, parkingwise, is a co-worker complaining that his contract spot in the C Ramp isn't letting him park there on gameday. Not that he'd be coming downtown that day anyway, but he feels he should be refunded the $4 or whatever his contract works out to per day.

Yeah, I guess I'm surprised that they think there will be that much parking demand for the game. Nobody staying at the downtown hotels will need parking; presumably all of the outlying hotels will be running shuttles. They've set up the Blue Line and Green Line to offer pre-screened express service. Other out-of-town coastal elites will probably be leaning heavily on Uber, etc. I'd expect that there will be less demand than at a typical Vikings game, right?
