Great to see! It'll be nice to see some new retail down in this area.
They have started removing the old facade of this building. It’s going to be an interesting view when open.

So, I hate to be that guy that brings a thread to the top making it look like there is news when I just have a question...so I will ask this here:) I don't live in Minneapolis anymore...I wonder does anyone have any recent pics or an update about how Peavey Plaza is looking? Isn't that supposed to be almost done at this point? Also, and progress on tree replacing on Nicollet? How is that looking in year two? I know there is still a ton of vacant space, but at least the old B&N space is nearly built out. The restaurant patios/flowers looking good? Considering the city neglected to include any flower pots in the new design!! How dumb was that?!

Thanks in advance for any pics or commentary :D I miss making my rounds to see how things are looking.

I think they replaced all the dead trees (or at least I saw them replacing dead trees one day, impressively with similar-sized trees, and assume they did all of them).

This project is the Met Council repairing a sewer tunnel 85' below grade. It'll wrap up next spring.


At that time, the city's reconstruction of 4th St will begin in earnest, to be complete in 2022.

Nothing is wrong with one-lane one-ways. A few things are wrong with two-lane one-ways but they can be acceptable under certain circumstances. One-way streets with three or more lanes are completely incompatible with an urban environment.

You didn't really answer the question, you just restated what you said before.

If you've got a three-lane one-way then if you've got someone turning right and someone turning left and both are blocked then at least the whole street isn't at a standstill.

It turns urban roads into mini-freeways. See Portland or Park Avenue north of Lake Street.

They're also bad for bicycles, since reaching certain destinations can technically require you to go around an extra block or two (though of course most people will just end up riding against the flow or going on the sidewalk, etc.). They cut down on the number of alternate routes people have to get from point A to point B, so they can end up concentrating traffic. But when the traffic dies down on non-rush periods, the streets can be wide dead zones (this is usually more apparent in downtown St. Paul than Minneapolis). They can be faster, but that tends to just make drivers escape downtown more quickly rather than lingering and spending more time/money in the area.
