Well it's sort of bound to happen (the crane).....are people just surprised it's happening so fast?

A tower (and a tower crane) both need pretty substantial footings, even if there's no underground parking. I'm not sure where bedrock sits relative to this site, but I'd anticipate that there will be some piles or augered piers required in place before we see any tower crane here.

Not to quote myself, but you did sort of re-ask the same question. You can't just throw up a tower crane on a cleared site. They're usually (but not always) tied into the buildings primary foundation system. In this case, there aren't any building foundations ready to go, so yes, I'd be surprised if they started putting up the tower crane now.

Concerning the webcam for the Loring Park tower, I just called and talked to Brian Gordon (Project Manager) about having a webcam. They're actually working on that at this time. So, I suspect before long, they'll have a webcam for all of us to view the progress.

I just realized...I believe this will be the 2nd tallest residential building in Minneapolis, and 3rd tallest in the metro...is that right?

Um, yes, and this one will be around 375 feet. So what do you mean? The Mc Knight tower has ridiculously short floor heights. As far as i know, only The Carlyle will be taller in Minneapolis...and Galtier in St. paul...those are the ones I was referring to.

I drove by this morning to see how it was going, and I have to say that the nice blue construction fence is a nice touch. I think they really are trying to be considerate of the neighbors, keeping the site clean and the 'unsightly' construction process under wraps. I realize there is not much they can do about noise, but that's a nice gesture.
