It does look pretty similar to City Works. Hopefully with a better Happy Hour, though (says they guy who works across the street).

As for the 78th least popular beer...the kegs are pressurized and if you are drinking the 78th least popular beer it might be time to examine your life - either you are a hipster of the variety that seeks out the 78th least popular selection OR, you are drinking terrible beer. ;)
I do not take kindly to being called a hipster.

How excuse me as I prepare to ride transit to a place to try some new beer (darnit, left my bike at home).

That was my first thought to, but there is something bland and kind of unappealing about City Works, despite the beer selection.

I too will be more interested in one slightly closer to work.

They have 100 beers on tap, I don't think it's unreasonable to ask if they're able to keep all 100 beers in peak condition.

Having 100 beers is just a cop-out. Pick 20 good beers. The fact that you have 100 taps just means that you've got money to waste on unnecessary taps and an unwillingness to exert any editorial control over your beer list.

Every now and again it feels so good when MNdible and I agree.

Does the alcohol content of the beer have any serious disinfecting properties or no?
No, there's not enough alcohol. It's actually the opposite, the yeast can speed up line gunk.

Just another bar that has to work with the same distributors that every other local bar uses. We're not going to see anything different or special, just more and more isn't always better.

Jeez I hate to be a stick in the mud about our stupid liquor laws but imagine how nice things would be if bars like this could just buy kegs directly from some of the local craft breweries without going through the three tier nonsense?

A lot of them do right now. MN breweries that produce fewer than 20k barrels a year can self-distribute.

The doors were open and some hardhats were in the restaurant space today. Looks like they're scoping things out. With Nicollet Mall under construction there doesn't seem to be much space for whatever they will need to set up the place.

HopCat has leased the space along Nicollet Mall.

http://www.bizjournals.com/twincities/n ... ml?ana=twt

240 seats, plus 100 outside. Planning for a Summer opening with 100 beers on tap. 30 of which will be from Minnesota.
As someone that has lived in West Michigan, this is incredibly exciting.
I've been to the one in Grand Rapids, I'm happy to have one here!

They should be able to stage some stuff in that absurdly wide alley between the Nic on 5th and 401, I hope.

That alley should totally be a beer garden by night. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--Ioxag65L0k/V ... llette.jpg

Maybe they'll bring back so of the Nicollet mall events like they hold 10 + years ago.

They're building out something in the second floor commercial space. Looked like maybe exam rooms or offices or something?

I walked through the Skyway today. It looks like a couple retail spaces on the second floor are being built out.

I also heard from one of their staff they’re getting close to landing another ground-floor tenant.

It's one space, and I don't think it is retail. I think it'll be offices. But I could be mistaken.

I couldn't get a good picture through the glass, but before they put up that drywall, they were building a bunch of stud walls behind it. I agree that it looks like office space.

That's good news about a ground floor tenant, too! Now if we could just get MT to open that side platform that's been finished but closed for about six months so people could see them...
