This is a lot of fun to watch, not only because of how quickly the parking levels have been coming together, but to see how they move dirt and supplies around the site to make room for everything. I have particularly enjoyed seeing them reposition the dirt for the access ramp in/out of the hole. It's in a different configuration now than it was a few days ago. I can't wait to see how that whole ballet of supplies and machinery plays out as more and more of the lower levels get done.

In addition to everything you mentioned, this is also a lot of fun to watch them build a brewery basically across the street from my condo :)

They're digging out (reconfiguring?) the access ramp again today. Does anyone know: once all the footings are in place and backfilled, do they lift the excavators out of the hole with a crane? I'm irrationally excited to see how this works. Construction is awesome.

One of my neighbors is a concrete job sup on this site. I've already started nagging him for tours. :)

Wondering that too.

Count me in for theoretical tours!

Notice they've poured the footing for the second tower crane?

KA had a blog post about this a while back. If I remember correctly the excavators will leave using the access ramp removing as much of it as they can as they leave and the remainder of the access ramp will be removed through smaller equipment that they will either crane out or drive out through the parking garage once possible.

Lots of info in the blog. Didn't know about it before now. Some highlights:
Start date for KA office building is Aug. 22, 2016 with topping out by Thanksgiving, and the residential tower is Sept. 16, 2016.

They're going to jack up the current tower crane another 100ft on Saturday, and install the second crane 8/15.

I didn't think to go read their blog. Thanks, DanB. Lots of good stuff in the monthly construction updates.

Question

I have been watching them work. What is that stuff they placed before the concrete. It's a brown color. It's hard to tell if its wood, l or some other material.

It's the formwork for the poured concrete. I think it's plywood with some sort of coating to allow it to release easily once the concrete cures a bit.

They'll just leave them down there. Back up diesel generators.

Saw that book at Marshall's and freaked out and had to buy it, my wife thought I was a little crazy.

I loved that book! I wonder if my parents still have it so I can read it to toddler.shoes.

I have a difficult time seeing and was wondering if someone could post a link to the most recent planning commission proposal for this block.

Looks like they've moved out the concrete barriers on 8th street in preparation for the mobile cranes that will place the steel structure of the KA office building this fall.
