Re: New Kraus-Anderson HQ (9th St. S/5th Ave. S)
oh... well at least it's for a good development I guess
Re: New Kraus-Anderson HQ (9th St. S/5th Ave. S)
wait... do you mean trees could be reusable in development?anyone know if they are keeping the mature trees in front of the old building? they are some of the biggest ones around...

Judging by the precision with which the sheet piles are being installed and the flat cap getting put in place along 5th Ave right now, I'm guessing we're seeing one of those developments that incorporate those piles right into the foundation wall.

Yes. Someone on Skyscrapercity emailed a guy at KA asking if they were doing it all in one phase, and got an email back confirming that they are.

Tower crane parts are arriving!
Re: New Kraus-Anderson HQ (9th St. S/5th Ave. S)
Looks like that crane is going up today. I wonder if they will have 2 or 3 for this.
Re: New Kraus-Anderson HQ (9th St. S/5th Ave. S)
I would not be surprised. They will need one for the 17 story apartment building and another for the Brewtel, if they are all being built at the same time.

I think everything we've heard to date has suggested that the apartment building will trail behind the other elements, no? But given the size of the block, I'd say that two cranes would be a minimum and three cranes would be nice.
Re: New Kraus-Anderson HQ (9th St. S/5th Ave. S)
Anyone know what the bit of rebar sticking out of the concrete base for the tower crane is for? It is barely visible on the webcam, just to the right of the crane. Much easier to see in person.

I assume the tower crane platform will be incorporated into the building's foundation system.

Actually the latest is that they're doing it well at onceI think everything we've heard to date has suggested that the apartment building will trail behind the other elements, no? But given the size of the block, I'd say that two cranes would be a minimum and three cranes would be nice.

Re: New Kraus-Anderson HQ (9th St. S/5th Ave. S)
Anyone notice that there's no pile driving going on at this site? They're pouring great big footings, but don't appear to be pounding anything into the ground below them. I'm a little surprised they can get away with that, but IANAE.
Edit: went back in time on the HCMC webcam and they didn't do any pile driving either. Must be pretty stable soil in that part of downtown.

I think in general, the greater Bassett Creek Valley (generally from the railroad trench up through the North Loop) is the only part of downtown with bad soils requiring pile driving.

I have been watching the construction camera. Whats with the white poles? Is that for the underground parking? Also yesterday they purned this slab of concrete on the east side. Any one knows what thats for

I believe the slab on the east side is for the elevator pit of the apartment building and the white polls are support columns for the parking structure and buildings above.
Re: New Kraus-Anderson HQ (9th St. S/5th Ave. S)
Is that tower crane going to be inside the apartment tower? Doesn't look like enough room on the side of it. Maybe just hard to tell due to the angle.
Re: New Kraus-Anderson HQ (9th St. S/5th Ave. S)
It will be just to the west of it. The apartment building is not that wide. At least according to this picture.

They've begun rising up from the bottom of the hole! Pouring the first part of P1 this morning.
