Cool! I hope the DJ blasts some Nintendo music, like the theme for Mike Tyson's Punchout, or Zelda!!

But as far as changing the current problem of having a lot of underage or immature people coming to this area late at night and causing trouble, the ONLY thing that this place will do to assist that is keep 18-20 year olds from coming in, but that's it! I suppose it's a "dorkier" crowd too, and maybe more passive? IDK.

Not really sure what this has to do with 18+ dance night. This is a 21+ video game bar.

This is the area where the 18+ Sunday night crowd was causing trouble. I'm not sure if Karma was an 18+ bar on Sundays but I think it was. The very reason Karma is not in business is because of the stabbings and shootings that came on those Sunday nights (which made Strib headlines several times in the past 2-3 years) and the city shut it down. This development appears to be an answer to the 18+ nightclub issue downtown Mpls has been having.

If you still don't see the correlation I can't help you.

I'll probably check this place out some night out of curiosity but I'm not very bullish on its long-term prospects in this market. Las Vegas, yes, but IDK about Mpls.

This is opening October 26th according to some Facebook ads they've been running.

Agreed. Who paid for this nonsense? Some rich kid with a trust fund to blow? I can't see how an actual investor/businessperson would think this could be successful in Minneapolis in 2012. All signs point to closing sometime in 2014.

I have a lot of friends posting about this excitedly on facebook and such, I think if it isn't done extremely well and unique it'll be a total flashpan type place.

Well, let's be honest, it's not like this concept hasn't been tried in downtown Minneapolis before, even if it wasn't quite the same thing. They literally could have just knocked down the walls between Gameworks and Escape. :)

No, it looks pretty different from Gameworks. Gameworks was an arcade with food and drinks, Insert Coin is a bar with consoles. I also have some friends that are pretty interested in this. It might be a more accessible way for nerds like me to go out and get bottle service and have a good time out without having to deal with normal snotty clubs.

Or maybe it will be a normal snotty club with video games, in which case screw that.

This is a lot different than Gameworks or any other arcade. The idea is to caret to the gaming culture. I'm sure they will be hosting gaming tournament nights, gaming themed nights and a whole lot more. Free games get people in the doors and they make money selling booze.

On their site, they already have a schedule of events listed out for the fall.

That's nice that they've planning for daytime and nighttime operations, means they don't have to be quite so snotty to make a profit only being open for 35 hours a week or so.

For what it's worth, there is a decent "video game culture" in this market. Game Informer, a major video game magazine, is based in Minneapolis and has a presence on 93X and KFAN, that I know of. So the opportunities for cross-promotion are there.

Yes, yes, I know it's different. Joke, people. :) I don't know if it will do well, but more power to them.

So I'm thinking of bringing a group of gamer-dudes here for a portion of my buddy's bachelor party.

Does anyone have any more recent impressions? The video game aspect of it sounds great, but their website seems to market waaay more to the typical d-bag clubbing crowd. I mean look at those photos and the names of the dj's and such. The marketing angle they are doing is a huge turn off. We would feel super out of place in a nightclub-type setting.

I have a lot of gamer friends who have gone and loved it, but I haven't been myself yet, so I can't speak to it personally. Also Chris Kluwe likes it, for whatever that's worth.

You wouldnt feel out of place. The atmosphere is that of a club, but everyone there is more interested in the games then anything else. I'm not sure why they try and be something they aren't. I've only been once for a friends birthday and the only thing that stuck out to me was that despite the scantly dressed women performing on the stripper poles in the middle of the dance floor, most people we're looking solely at their pac-man screens. So basically just take a pretty cool arcade but make the atmosphere really clubby.
