Probably just Jacob Frey running laps on it.

They're not keeping it wet enough. Probably need to adjust the sprinklers.

Well it seems like some of the grass was already dry when it was laid. Sprinklers are on right now though.

Per Frey on Facebook:

They're going to put in new sod where the dry spots are. They dried up before even being laid as I initially thought.

Edit: Looks like they've already done it

Fences are down around the east block as of this morning, so it's effectively open if you'd like to check it out.

Looking at the construction cameras, I see a circular walk round the center green (for folks who like to walk in circles, I guess), and then around that a lot of trees and brown colored ground. What is that material? Some kind of aggregate paving, gravel, sand, or ... ?

it's a permeable surface... softer. they had a kids climbing thing on one of these areas. there's also apparently an area on the 5th st side to let your dog do his/her business.

Unfortunately, the relief area isn't of much use since its across the park from all the residences. The downtown and Elliott Park neighborhoods are working to try to get that changed in a later phase of the project.

So it's another 30 or 40 yards to walk? What?

Dogs tend to go pretty quickly after they get outside. Apparently there are certain areas of Gold Medal Park that have to be re-sodded multiple times per year because of that.

Apartment dog owners are the pits (speaking as a lawn owner.)

I'm not from the area, but looking at the cameras, I see exactly one apartment building that's directly on the park. The new one just constructed. So any dog owners beside those residents have to walk their dogs to the park anyway. Or am I mistaken?

Speaking as an apartment dog owner, if there was any facility that I could use, I would use it.

My dog is trained to hold her bearings until we get to the corner with the bags. Not to brag or anything, though.

Good for you (sincerely). But the reality is many dog owners won't have their dogs trained that well. Especially in the winter.

And with 30-40% of new units in that area having dogs (from what I've heard from the DMNA), there will be a lot of people with dogs who aren't trained that well.

It's just prudent to have relief areas in locations where they will be useful.

Um, no.
Care to expand on that?

I admit, I'm just going on what I heard from DMNA people who live next to it, but your comment is very unhelpful.
