I should've been more specific... was wondering if anyone knew where the project was at. Is the hotel planned for that space still on track?

Per the blog "Just Listed" in the Star Tribune by Janet Moore. Hotel proposed for south downtown. The block is 8th St.N.and 1st Ave So. 210 room Hampton Inn and Suites. I could go back to scan the posts but is this old news? Mortenson Development. No specifics and number of rooms could change.

Maybe Mortenson will be original and make this hotel 4 units per floor.....everyone gets a corner view!

Hilton will be dropping $14M on room upgrades for their downtown hotel:

Among the more modest expenditures are 50 inch flat screen televisions for every room.

I don't know if it's been said here yet, but the Seven Corners hotel now has all of the Courtyard by Marriott signage up.

Maybe one or two more small, private sector hotel developments and we can put the terrible idea of a publicly subsidized 1000-room convention center hotel to bed.

It seems as though developers are skeptical of the 1000 room hotel project considering how we're seeing new rooms planned in the market.

No. The developer's perceived market for the possible Alatus hotel is people using the new stadium. The Hampton Inn wants to attract people attending events at Target Field and the basketball arena. The purpose of the convention center hotel is to attract large conventions to our facility, and remain competitive with the many other cities now building state-of-the-art hotels for the convention business. They are really marketing to different demographic groups.

I would agree that you disagree.

Not sure if this was known or posted on here before but saw this article on MSP Biz Journal this afternoon.

Would rather:

1. Plymouth Building remain apartments, because residential historic rehabs are some of my favorite projects
2. Hotel supply be met with something closer to a convention-sized building (800+ rooms) and not this

We'll see I guess.

Hotel, eh? So basically they would be turning the Plymouth Building into a clone of the Dyckman Hotel across the street, which was demolished to make way for City Center. Ironic.

I'm just going to put this here because this is where talk of Ameriprise buying the Ivy was:
http://finance-commerce.com/2013/08/ame ... vy-condos/

Failing to buy the hotel, they bought 17 condos instead. Haha.

This is good news. Takes another 17 condos out of the already shrinking inventory downtown, which can only improve the chances for more condo development to happen sooner. Wish they would get rid of that ridiculous metal fence at the top of this project, and complete the crown as it was originally designed:

Does anyone know if and when the Radisson Plaza hotel in Downtown will still be converted to a Radisson Blu? You would think they would have tried to do the renovation before the MLB all star game and the summertime. I found this old article from the Bussiness Journal. It says they planned to begin in a few months back in April 2013 and have it complete in 2014. I assume they meant at the time early 2014. Has anyone heard anything on this one? Thanks http://www.bizjournals.com/twincities/b ... l?page=all

I think the market is ripe for one or two new 200-300 room hotel in downtown. Occupancy rates are extremely high, especially since there are more hotels rooms downtown now than there were last time the market was this good. If the hotel proposal next to the stadium isn't approved, there may be enough pend up demand to make a convention hotel a reality in the next 2-3 years without having the city put up any more for it.
