I had a dream this grew to 20 stories last night and became very BIG (Bjarke-Ingels) like. Very clear boxy.

Just for fun. No new info added.

So this is only gotten as far as the committee of the whole, correct? There might still be some design changes.

Has anybody figured out what the future potential graphic is in this?

Is it suggesting that the offices could be expanded on top of the ramp next door? Or that it's for private development?

It just has that with no real explanation.

I know the Fleet Farm ramp was designed to have office/residential added on top, but I can’t imagine this ramp was however many years ago it was built. Adding the liners for the elevators would be such an exorbitant cost that it would make more sense just to tear it down and start with something new.

As of this morning the concrete is all down. They have now moved onto slowly cutting down the metal segments and stairwells with a welding torch.

Still quite a bit of concrete left in the back corner.

The crane is up for this. Someone should count all the cranes in the East Town neighborhood. Four or so with Thrivent and at least 3 more scattered.

Sadly, a worker fell this afternoon here. I went for a walk and 6th was closed with a firetruck trying to access the victim. Prayers.

They were using a firetruck to lift him out of the pit, he was alert and moving but his lower body was immobilized. Hopefully it's something relatively minor, not a spinal injury.

Oooh I saw so many police cars blocking 3rd Av and 6th St and was wondering what happened. Healing to this worker.

It looks like there's a CMU wall going in on some of the 5th St frontage of the parking ramp immediately behnid the new city building. Anyone know what that's about?

This is going to be a good addition to the governmental zone of downtown. It is good to see all of these functions in relatively close proximity to each other and the plazas on either side of the Hennepin County towers should be more animated by the increased foot traffic this building will probably bring to the area. It is wonderful to see the city making a strong and good design choice.

So what's up with this chatter of MPD wanting to move the 1st Precinct to the existing city offices? Would they just use the PSC or City of Lakes building as-i? Tear down and build something new that would meet their needs better? I thought part of the funding scheme for the new city office building assumed the future sale of PSC/CoL buildings for private redevelopment? Handing the property over to MPD kinda kills the idea of the city recouping anything on a sale. I don't disagree that 1st precinct needs a larger space than their current one (19 N 4th St), but I'm balking at the idea of the PSC / City of Lakes property staying as-is and off the tax rolls.

Since they say they need 170(!) parking spaces, I've gotta imagine they'd be tearing down and rebuilding on part of the PSC/CoL sites. Getting those properties back on the tax rolls was specifically part of the plan for the new office building, so hopefully they're looking at a mixed-use PUD like they're doing with the fire station?

Of all of the finished, underway or proposed new buildings in the downtown area, this holds the potential to be one of the best. Of course, the reality could still fall far from the renders, but I am hopeful. I am really anxious for the steel to get up and the curtain wall to begin being installed.
