U.S. Bank Stadium
Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
vikings site has more more soccer configuration renderings. until the mn united group/mcguire reveal something to the public, (have they revealed anything but vague statements?) i'm going to cut the vikings some slack. they are clearly making a concerted effort to bring expansion team here.

Lester Bagley, Vikings spokesman, 2012 - http://www.startribune.com/local/minnea ... 85826.html"That doesn't mean we're not interested [in soccer]," Bagley said. "It just means we've got a tremendous amount of work to do to make sure the facility meets the Vikings' and our fans' needs first and foremost.
Lester Bagley, Vikings spokesman, 2014 - http://www.startribune.com/sports/vikin ... 44091.html"The point is that it would be equal footing. Major League Soccer would have a presence in the building. … This is not going to be a stepchild to the NFL ... ... This is a soccer-specific stadium, designed from day one, funded for soccer and for MLS."
Lester Bagley is trying his best to rewrite history here.

Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
I didn't click all the links above, but the main rendering being passed around on twitter last night showed a mysterious cloud floating around the upper part of the stadium. I'm guessing the intention was to subtly imply smoke from some sort of fan celebration while really trying to hide the dull part of the concept. If you think about it, why else would it be necessary to include smoke? It's not like a cloud of smoke hovering above the crowd is an MLS staple.

Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
Did we ever figure out why somebody tried to burn his house down? The news article almost played it like a coincidence, but given his public standing it seems awfully coincidental that some arson would just randomly light his house on fire.

Here's the distinction: the Wilfs are corrupt businessmen from the east coast. McGuire and Pohlad are *local* corrupt businessmen. They're "one of us."
The problem with being an introvert online is that no one knows you're just hanging out and listening.

The proceeds of corruption should stay local! Har har!
So we realize that basically any nouveau-uber-riche that can own a pro sport franchise probably has sketchiness on their ascension to uber wealth.
So reading over this and the Farmers Market thread...
UrbanMSP consensus is that the MN United proposal is better because it would be outdoor and maintain our existing NASL franchise?
But consensus seems to be that the recent Vikes decision to spend on the soccerizing of their monstrosity gives them the edge to land the MLS franchise?

Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
I figure the MLS sees this…
In the Vikings’ favor:
1) stadium is paid-for
2) stadium works well for MLS’ February, March and November games
3) stadium is adjacent to a park
4) stadium has the revenue potential of Seattle-like attendance
In Minnesota United’s favor:
1) stadium will have grass

Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
Nah. There is still a strong preference within MLS for purpose built stadiums. Its obviously not a requirement to win an expansion bid, but if you've followed MLS at all in the last 15 years you'd understand just how big of an impact the move towards smaller stadiums has had. It has legitimized the league.

Why then did the MLS locate the most recent franchise in Atlanta's NFL stadium?
Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
MLS needed a second team in the Southeast to join Orlando and there wasn't another feasible option for a stadium. Why then did the MLS locate the most recent franchise in Atlanta's NFL stadium?

Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
Enthusiasm for the MLS will be tepid in Atlanta along with all professional sports in Atlanta. No use in building a soccer specific stadium in Atalanta, but it is worth a shot that maybe the sport will catch on. The NHL tried its hardest and lost millions to make professional hockey work to no avail. Atlanta is a big market so worth it take a flyer on the investment maybe paying off. If it doesn't workout the MLS will just shut down the franchise, no one will give a shit and move on.Why then did the MLS locate the most recent franchise in Atlanta's NFL stadium?
