Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
They're currently dismantling the first tower crane!! Get your pics in of all the cranes before it's too late!! There'll probably never be this many in this small area ever again...

Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
I highly doubt we'll be flat-out replacing any of the new stadiums after only 25 - 30 years. They all have separate club levels, plenty of suites, etc. More importantly for everyday fans, they actually have right-sized concourses and enough toilets.
A Target Center - style renovation is much more likely, if even that. With proper maintenance and timely upgrades, stadiums can, and do, last longer than 30 years - if they were built properly* in the first place: Fenway, Wrigley, Dodger, Kaufman, Arrowhead, etc. The only exception I can think of is NFL stadiums build far out in the suburban hellscape (Fed-Ex Field)
*Proper as defined is NOT multi-use (baseball and football), plenty of concourse, bathroom and concession space, and sited in a centralized, likely urban, area

Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
Most stadiums built 25-40 years ago were the multi-purpose type stadiums that were also done on the cheap. That is why they are all being replaced now. These new stadiums are set up for a specific sport, and can be upgraded over time to keep with the times. Total rebuild should not be necessary.

You're right, I was wrong. I completely missed that, It was hidden among all the steel!! I think the third one (the eastern crane) is coming down very soon as well. The second tower crane is coming down today.
Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
I was just at the stadium about an hour ago and saw what looked like half a seating section worth of that metal scaffolding come tumbling down, falling inside the stadium bowl. Didnt see any ambulances race to the scene, but it sure didn't look controlled.

I'm seeing nothing about that, but I did see that WrestleMania 33 in 2017 is looking to be the front runner for host.

Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
It was similar to that, but it happened at about 5p today. It was in the same area of the stadium, but it was falling more inward, I don't think anything hit the street.

Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
Yeah but they won't have room for the ultraluxe hoversuites! The poor trillionaire sports owners will be forced to move the team to the mars colony because they just won't be able to make a decent living without those extra accoutrements!I highly doubt we'll be flat-out replacing any of the new stadiums after only 25 - 30 years. Mar's can have 'em. The IGFL (Intergalactic Football League) keeps mars without a team just so trillionaires can lord the possibility of losing a team over us.

Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
If we're gonna have reliable commercial inter-planetary travel to a colony on Mars with a population numbering in the millions in 30-40 years, we're gonna need a LOT more government spending

Too bad we'll have spent it all on stadiums and highway expansions instead.
Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
Wait, the NFL stadium had a public subsidy? Tell me more.
Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
On the color of the zinc cladding changing, the best example I can find is from a outdoor planter manufacturer. Granted I would imagine the stadium cladding will be better cared for than a pot for tomatoes, but it still gives a decent visual representation. To bad though, I'd prefer the ominous dark to last. This is the final cladding for the entire stadium; yes. I also believe hearing that the color will change/lighten a bit over time. (Went on a tour about a month ago)

Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
I looked today for an example of the cladding for the stadium. There was one large gray piece I think way along the bottom of the NE corner of the stadium, if in fact that was it. Other wise all I saw was a lot of weather seal and insulation and some of the new windows on the east end of the stadium.
Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
Looks like a truss is going up on the Northwest side of the stadium. Can't believe it's going up this fast
