Still, fun to blame the stadium.

Race participants are paying significant money to participate in long race. If they're willing to shell out for the privilege of putting themselves through that pain, they should be able to handle 45 degree weather.

Vikings are planning to pay City $50,000 to study two-waying 3rd St (great idea) so they can have 4th St ROW for themselves (bad idea).

Sounds like this would only be in effect during events when they need to expand the security perimeter, right?

Also, can we please move this thread back into the Downtown forum where it belongs?

Half of that will probably be covered by the contractor because they made mistakes.

The fight over funding U.S. Bank Stadium isn’t over
https://www.minnpost.com/politics-polic ... isn-t-over
That disconnect seemed to be playing out again last month, when the city council took testimony on the city’s 2017 budget. At the meeting, Ostrow distributed a lengthy letter to the council and Mayor Betsy Hodges written by Carlson and himself urging council members to become more involved in determining whether the deal is being carried out fairly for taxpayers.

“I urge you to do what is in your power to address the growing costs of the Vikings Stadium for Minneapolis taxpayers,” Ostrow told the council at the budget meeting. “The misconception people have in that the stadium debate is over. It isn’t and it’s time for the city to act to stop this.”

Such scolding doesn’t usually prompt action by those on the receiving end of the lecture. But this wasn’t one of the usual times. The council unanimously approved a “staff direction” request by Carlson and Ostrow to take a deeper look at how the city can more closely monitor the costs it's incurring due to the stadium — and even if it should renegotiate the stadium use agreement with the Vikings and the Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority.

I suppose I should read the whole letter, but an argument that starts with "the legislation capped the city's contribution but they've also spent on adjacent infrastructure" makes it hard to get motivated to do so.

Because that's completely disingenuous. The stadium bill absolutely did not purport to limit what the city could spend on city resources.

Vikings want to install permanent fencing around the stadium. MSFA disagrees.

As I said about the temporary fences, I cannot fathom why security wasn't incoporated into the original design. The need should have been obvious. I hate the temporary fences and the giant, empty, cement plaza.

That said, I'd let them add something as long as (1) the Vikings pay for all of it, and (2) rather than just fencing, it's something that adds to the appeal of the plaza. The context is different, but I'm thinking of the plaza in front of the federal courthouse, with landscapring of some sort that could be connected together to form a perimeter for event security. Which would obvsiously be a lot more expensive than fencing.

Speaking of fences, is anyone else excited to see that entire half of downtown shut down for the Super Bowl? There'll be a security perimeter at least a couple blocks in every direction.

Yeah, I have to believe that a well-designed solution for permanent fencing would be a significant improvement over what we're seeing out there now for days before and after any event.

That said, the brief shot that appears in the KARE story does not appear to be a fully-baked design solution.

And I guess I wouldn't be opposed to the MSFA paying for a reasonable portion of this cost.

Any chance they'd fix their crappy bollard placement so they don't block bikes out of the cycletrack as well as cars?
