That would be awesome! What's the story on the source of this? (Not trying to be critical, I'm just curious about how much i should get my hopes up)

Great news! Have any plans been published for the 16-story proposal?

The number of significant developments in this area is really exciting. Excluding US Bank Stadium and the Commons Park developments, a number of them are listed below:

- Portland Tower (Fall 2016) - replaced surface lot
- Kraus Anderson Offices (Fall 2017) - replaced small office and surface lot
- Armory (Winter 2017 - landscaping outstanding) - replaced parking garage
- Hennepin Healthcare (Spring 2018) - replaced one-story building and surface lot
- HQ Apartments (Spring 2018) - replaced small office and surface lot
- Finnegan's House (Spring 2018) - replaced small office and surface lot
- Elliot Park Hotel (Fall 2018) - replaced small office and surface lot
- S 6th St and 5th Ave S Apartments (breaking ground) - replaced surface lot
- Thrivent HQ Block (breaking ground) - replaced surface lot
- House of Charity (planned) - replaced existing one-story building and surface lot
- 801 Portland (planned) - replaced one-story building and surface lot
- S 6th St/S 7th St and Portland Ave, Hennepin Healthcare Expansion (rumored) - replace surface lot

With all of this development, I hope the retail and restaurants quickly follow. Little concerned that these developments make little room for them as planned. As it stands right now, there is Finnegan's, CVS, Lehman's Garage and the Centre Village Convience Store.

+2 large influxes of office workers in the near future (Hennepin County consolidating into the old Thrivent building and Minneapolis consolidating into the new building). The demand for services in this area is just going to keep increasing.

No public plans yet that I've seen. They presented to the Elliot Park neighborhood association, which was documented in the MSPsocial thread linked to on the previous page.

It's apparently being built by K-A. They're proposing (hold on to your hats) a six-story stick-built apartment building with a WF branch in the base. (Locked)

Hooray.
16 stories now

So confused. So this is 16 stories tall and not six?

I tried clicking on the link, but the link did not work.

Is the HCMC clinic and specialty center designed for skyway expansion to the east and west blocks (over Park to this block, and over Chicago to the very old parking ramp?) I always thought so, due to the odd second floor hall/atrium design, seems to run the entire length of the second floor.

MSPBJ confirms a bigger project, quotes a Kraus-Anderson VP saying it will now be 17 stories with a rooftop deck. Great news.
Kraus-Anderson Cos. had previously been planning a six-level apartment building across the street from its new downtown headquarters. It’s now upped that concept to 17 stories with a top-floor sky deck, Executive Vice President Michael Hille said in an email.

Not to anything that connects to the rest of the system.

They could technically go across Park to the new HCMC building, which connects through the rest of the HCMC complex to the parking ramp, which will connect to the new Thrivent HQ, but I don't buy that HCMC would be on board with having people walk through like that.

Not from MN originally but I tend to like the skyways and use them more than not.

Perhaps. But pulling on your parka and mittens to walk four frozen blocks is definitely from the century before that.

Finance & Commerce article on the new development (unlocked).
Similar info, but still a good read.

Quote I loved the most: "It is most beneficial for Wells Fargo — as well as ourselves and all the surrounding projects — to start construction as soon as humanly possible,” she said.

Kraus-Anderson: Why stop at HQ block?

A native bachelor farmer wouldn’t use them. Image

As are wider sidewalks, bicycles, and streetcars. Image

Cutting out 11 drive-thru lanes, and following the Mpls 2040 plan ideals are both great things.
