This thing is giving me serious uncanny valley vibes. It's like a parking garage is trying its hardest to be an apartment building, but just can't quite get over the hump.

This is horrible

Like... really awful. Proportions are all wrong. There's absolutely not enough units for downtown. And it meets the street in the worst way possible.

Funny, they didn't even name the packet correctly... What other St. Paul project is DJR working on?

I guess I don't mind them taking cues from Sexton on the design, I like the brick!

I actually like this, especially the giant vintage warehouse windows. I think it compliments Sexton well.

I like the warehouse feel. I am not that concerned about it not having enough units for downtown. I personally like these five or six story developments. They make really good infill projects. I’m not exactly sure how, but the street frontage could maybe be a little better. I’m just happy to see density continuing to rise.

I think it's the "tower" on the corner that makes it look like the elevator lobby of a parking garage.

175 units is not terrible for a quarter block.

Was just going to comment the same as others about this looking like a parking ramp with windows.
This is a really mediocre project.

'St Paul Development' is the developer.

Haha glad I'm not the only one that thought parking garage looking at that rendering. I think amiller92 is right, it's that empty looking elevator corner lobby along with the big windows opening up into empty units. I don't really expect them to render each unit fully furnished so, I guess that's what you get.

These guys presented to the DMNA tonight. The rendering was the same as the CoW packet, but they've apparently changed the unit mix to include 1BR and 2BR units, for a total of 150.

Also, one of the committee members went to the CoW meeting, and apparently they got pretty much laughed out of the room, so there's probably some changes incoming.

Could you elaborate?

He just mentioned it offhand after the meeting, so I don't know any details, but apparently it was a very short presentation, with the committee pretty bluntly saying that it wasn't good enough. No idea whether the concern is that it's ugly, that it's not dense enough, that it shouldn't have a surface lot (which is the leverage the city used to get K-A to revamp their HQ block plans), or all of the above.

From the PDR Comprehensive Report...
- The address for the proposed restaurant space will be 505 S 7th Street.
- The address for the residential entrance will be 511 S 7th Street.
Sometimes, the City doesn't even know how to interpret their own addressing standard. It should be 7th Street South.

The billboard on this site has been removed, and it appears they have closed the parking lot.
