The building itself looks pretty boring, but I'm happy the street is activated at the intersection noire and that the space has multiple uses!

The venue would be the eighth Fillmore in the country. It is based on the original Fillmore in San Francisco, which opened in 1954 and was made famous by concert promoter Bill Graham. The Minneapolis Fillmore would be expected to host about 150 shows a year and draw in between 150,000 and 200,000 people annually.

This music venue is interesting (capacity 2000). May draw some acts that could easily sell out First Ave (capacity 1550) - but that's also already happening with the Palace theater. This may be a good alternative to acts that would have previously played the State (cap 2000) or Orpheum (cap 2600) but want more of a "club" atmosphere. Might be a nice fit with existing venues.

Mill City Nights got mostly hip hop artists that no one really heard of or wanted to see.

I thought the true capacity ended up being lower due to issues with sight lines and such that weren't accounted for at first.

I think Mill City Nights was terribly designed, had bad sight lines, and couldn't hold nearly as many people as they thought it would. Also, I think the acoustics were bad. Just a huge failure.

This building isn't much better or worse than the recent slew of budget hotels in the city, I actually kind of like the design of the restaurant area actually. The one thing that I think is missing, especially for the music venue, is place making signage. Nothing about this says performance venue. If I were coming here for the first time I'd probably get off the train or out of my car and wander around the area for a while looking for a performance venue. This looks like a hotel with a restaurant, period. Where is the Marquee or the lights or any sense of place making/excitement? (there appears to be a very small ticker above the restaurant... but it's not very impactful at all.

Construction has officially begun on the hotel and venue, which will also be called Target Field Station. Wonder if we can convince Hennepin County to rebrand the HERC?

I’ll move the discussion over here in regards to the recent proposed development adjacent to Target Field Station and what the impacts are for future rail operations.

Before the stadium was built there was easily enough land for a European style train hub, now not even close. I get wanting to develop in a market that’s hopping, but could they not have designed these buildings in a way that allows more commuter/intercity rail platforms?

I guess now we either tunnel which will be expensive as hell, or find a new location that hopefully doesn’t get seized by developers.

This is why we should do a better job at protecting right-of-way. Sure the commuter rail proposals aren’t making progress now, but in a decade or two choking the BNSF corridor through downtown may come back to haunt us just like with the Kenwood townhomes that forced us to either reroute freight trains, reroute light rail, or send light rail underground.
