This can't be good news for 700 Nicollet:

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/08/12/busin ... iness&_r=0

Especially this sentence:

"Investors have been pressuring Macy’s to sell some of its real estate as the company has struggled to attract shoppers to its vast footprint of brick-and-mortar stores."

Whatever came of that plan to convert floors 5-11 or whatever into a separate office space?

Did they ever end up selling 700 Nicollet and leasing back the showroom? Or was it just listed for sale?

700 Nicollet is still owned by Macy's according to Hennepin County tax records.

Does it normally take a whole year for such a thing?

I'm guessing it's the whole consolidating a lot of space into one.
From the article: "...including the former Gap and Gap Kids spaces as well as the basement area that once housed a TJ Maxx."

There's appears to be a new Indian restaurant that popped up in the old Taste of Thailand space on 7th just east of Hennepin. It's been there for at least a month or so.

Dug through this thread, and it looks like Sak's Off 5th took about 10 months. So a year for Nordstrom Rack isn't totally unreasonable, especially since they might be intentionally delaying until the Mall construction is totally finished.

RIP Minneapolis Vistors Center? Walked past it today and saw that the store is completely empty and the conference room that fronts Fifth was dark with blinds pulled down.

Not really surprised after their little audit shenanigans got caught. I'll bet their contract with the city got revoked or their other sponsors left.

"New retailer arriving today" says a little sign at the entrance. So... it doesn't look like it's closing down, just switching out all the merchandise for other merchandise?

Hmm. Good that something is going to fill it in. Still, I kind of liked that it was a Minneapolis/Minnesota-themed store that also provided visitor and transit info.
