Don't know about Saralyn, but former CM Lisa McDonald and BET chair Carol Becker have claimed to be co-founders of Minneapolis for "Everyone," the people who brought you the red signs. Former CM Tony Scallon has identified himself as a member.

Wow! It's worse in just about every way! Goes to show you that democracy is still accessible to wealthy landowners just like the founding fathers wanted.

The plan is still a huge improvement over the status quo, but it's disappointing to see concessions being made entirely in the regressive suburban direction.

It is also possible that the original plan was purposely more aggressive than what they really wanted to enact so they could present the real plan as the compromise. Four stories by right along transit corridors in the outer neighborhoods is still much more dense than what is currently allowed for. And based on the construction I have seen this summer it looks like threeplexes pencil in better than fourplexes in terms of cost.

Yeah that definitely could be the case. It's really telling that the article that got posted to streets.mn the other day about the distribution of signs in yards against 2040 are all the really rich homeowner neighborhoods.

Is there any reason to have 1-story buildings anymore, other than in industrial areas?

wasnt able to get to city hall but just turned on the livestream. the difference in demographics from what i saw at the hennepin county service center i just came from is striking.

It was kind of fascinating hearing (although I missed some and left before it was over). But lots of interesting demographics. Maybe three people of color(?), two of whom testified in opposition because the plan did not do enough to protect people and businesses of color from displacement (hard to object to that concern).

Otherwise, the usual concerns about process and parking, and truly bizarre notions of environmental harms from density (ignoring the harms of sprawl) dominated the early testimony, from older people who live in SW and near the lakes who got there early to grab seats and sign up gave way over time to younger people concerned about housing prices, scarcity, diversity and climate change. The starkness of the age gap was pretty fascinating. Lots of concerns about greedy developers from the antis. No cheering of developer profits from the pros.
