Be @ Calhoun Greenway - 3129 Ewing Avenue S

Postby min-chi-cbus » June 8th, 2012, 2:50 pm

I know this isn't technically "Uptown", but it's either here or in "Minneapolis - Outside Downtown".....I'll leave that up to the moderator(s).

This link seems to summarize Dwell (West Calhoun project) nicely:

This looks like a standard suburban mega apartment block, with 'urban' siding

I don't really disagree, but I'd like to see as much development as possible around future LRT stops. Getting some more dense residential in the West Calhoun area (especially close to Lake St) will make it easier and more important for the urban fabric of uptown to extend to the other side of the lake.

Look closely at the renderings of the surface parking lots. They colored it with a hint of green that blends in with the trees. Odd thing, it worked. The renderings make it not look like an open-surface asphalt parking lot.

Looks like a pretty damn good use of a back parking lot and tennis court.

What? I thought they brought it back to the drawing boards because it wasn't "nice" enough or something? Do you know of any final approved site plans/renderings?

I don't know any details. I was near there yesterday and the parking lot and tennis court are gone and they had sewer pipe on site. They also were prepping to assemble a crane.

Well I'd say that's pretty definitive!

I live just across the bike trail from this location and they have been working there every day for a couple weeks now. I'm no construction expert but it sounds like they are pounding pilings into the ground, it is extremely loud for those of us in the neighborhood.

Oh thanks, I was wondering what was going on with this one! I used to live there (Canterbury Court Apts, now called something else), but I parked in that lot!

Wow, that's a bad name!

"Where do you live?"
"Be!"
"Huh?"
"Be @ the Calhoun Greenway!"
"Sa?"
"It's REALLY hip!"
"asphinctersayswhat?" (I don't think people say this anymore though....since maybe 1990 :( )

It's weird they are using my old address, meaning where I used to live (Canterbury Court Apartments) is no longer considered 3140 Chowen Ave I guess!

And to "Be" in this apartment building you have to "Be" uber rich apparently, because the starting prices are extremely high for what is essentially a glorified walk-in closet (they cost as much as Calhoun Beach Club, yet are half a mile from the lake)! I wonder if the surrounding apartments are now affordable?
