I live across the alley from the pile driving.....my headboard is 25 feet away. I saw a couple of Din Gerberding’s presentations. Deflecting questions with a...”I understand, I live in the neighborhood too.” Really???? I work nights and they start at 7:00 AM. The killer was the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Pounding all day long. Then at 11:50 PM I saw one X Cel cherry picker truck show up. POOF.... at the stroke of midnight the power got pulled. I called X Cel where recording told me power would return at 3:15. It was out until 6:00AM. It was a planned rerouting of power lines but no one called me. Noise all day and THREE guys in Three cherry pickers outside my bedroom window all night.!!! I don’t think Don Gerberding and associates are experiencing any life interrupts. They’re making a fortune and we’re getting pushed to the breaking point. 😱😱😱

I live on Garfield and 27th and can confirm that the noise, not to mention tiny earthquakes have been pretty awful.

Thanks for corroborating.... I feel that you feel.. and hear... my pain. 🤪🤪Imagine living “in” it. It is literally SPITTING DISTANCE from my bedroom window.

One summer I lived next to a pipeline that was being constructed in St Paul (along a BNSF rail corridor). It took the entire summer for the pile driver to go from 50 feet on one side of our house to 50 feet on the other. From 7 in the morning to 8 at night every single day.

I feel your pain. You don't know how horrible it can be until you live it.

I had a similar experience with the Hennepin Lyndale reconstruction project (I also worked night's at the time)... it's tough but a part of the whole city living gig. Sorry it's driving you nuts rn.

Thanks for the support. Hearing others speak of their experiences and living through them makes it tolerable for today.

Some changes to the original plan, including upping the total units to 97.

I think the slight facade tweaks/material changes are nice too

Lol at the public comment suggesting that, if they can add 11 apartments to the top floor at this stage, it should be a no-brainer to make them go back, rip up the foundations they've already built, and dig down another floor for 13 more parking spots.

Not that I have any trouble with adding the 11 apartments, but this does seem like a really shoddy way of working the approvals process. Seems like some sort of hand slap should be in order.

I agree MNdible. It's pretty bad form to expand the building after construction has started. If it gets approved, it helps write a bad narrative that developers will do bait and switch using step backs to get a floor added and then come back later after the building is under construction and expand it out to be almost a full floor.

I live in the 2600 block of Garfield, and I can confirm that the pile drivers (there are two of them) are absolutely horrific. Stuff vibrates off shelves and off the stove. One day the teakettle fell off the stove and spilled hot water all over the kitchen floor.

My friends come to visit and they sit in the living room listening to the windows and doors rattle and they ask "How is this legal? How can they do this to you?"

My girlfriend came back to visit for the holidays and woke up screaming when the pile driver started at 7:30 AM.

I know it must be 3 times worse for those poor bastards across the street at the apartment buildings. You can see all the windows vibrating. The pile driver was literally hammering away 30 feet from people's windows.

All that disruption to store cars.
Aldi's margins are razor thin. They have to move a massive amount of stuff through that store in order to post a modest profit. It would probably take an average of 100 bikes with trailers every hour the store is open to haul it all with human power.

I'm guessing 75% of the groceries leaving the store are going to be riding in cars, trucks, and SUVs.

I would say this likely isn't true in a neighborhood like this with transit and building nearby. I live and frequent the Lake St. Aldi and many of the customers don't drive, if not the majority. They take the bus, LRT or walk like I do.

I shop at the downtown Whole Foods a lot and their underground ramp is a busy place.

They started up the Chinese Water Torture pile driver about 10 minutes ago. I still haven't heard from the Earthquake one that vibrates the stuff off the stove.
