Plans are moving forward to redevelop the Midtown Farmers Market site at 2225 East Lake with Hennepin County offices, retail shops, housing, and a public plaza. This new plaza, slated to break ground in 3-5 years as part of the second phase of development, will serve as a permanent home for the Midtown Farmers Market. Yet the Market alone will not ensure this public space is well-used and sustainable. What else do you want to be able to do at this location?

Corcoran Neighborhood Organization, The Musicant Group, and developer Hennepin County are seeking your opinion. Take the survey here <https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/L-HStati ... xperiences>

Yeah, they were supposed to start tearing up the NW parking lot in June, and here we are in August and MPS isn't even parking in the NE parking lot yet.

Someone from CNO told me he had an email from Cano about it and was gonna forward it to me, I gotta bug him again about that...

Sixty-four new affordable senior apartments have opened on the northwest corner. Another affordable housing project with 135 units is planned just south of the light rail station. Most significantly, however, Hennepin County plans to break ground this fall on the 115-unit first phase of a development that will transform the southwestern corner into a major center of housing, retail and government services.

Anyone know when this will actually start? They had the official groundbreaking a few weeks ago, but it doesn't look like anything is going on...

Construction trailer brought on site today, and fence put up around the areas that weren't already fenced. There's also an excavator on site, maybe they're about to start tearing up asphalt.

Also, I got this construction notice stuck under my door since I live adjacent to this, I assume I'll keep getting them so as I get them I'll be sharing them: https://twitter.com/CorcoranTimes/statu ... 5260024832

This was an extremely sad thing to see yesterday while I was driving home. A physically disabled individual was probably just trying to get home, but due to the poor conditions of the sidewalk, they were forced onto a highway entrance ramp. I drive by this location everyday, and I often see similar situations of people struggling to navigate this area.

It is baffling that fixing this intersection is not a priority of the City of Minneapolis and also the State of Minnesota. Hopefully the Humanize Hi-Lake movement can draw attention to the terrible conditions at this intersection.

The city is doing a preliminary study of this intersection, trying to create a universe of alternatives that can be chosen from for further study in the future.

Also this project and Corcoran Triangle just south of the block will include a bike/walking connection between the existing Hiawatha "trail" and this area/intersection, so hopefully nobody would be forced to do something as terrible as that picture.

Sorry if this was already covered (didn't see it) but does anyone know if this first phase includes just phase I housing, the office component, or both (or none of the above)? I saw the original plans but it's been a while since those were released so I wondered if anything changed.

Hennepin County is currently building the office building (and 400-space underground parking garage). Most articles referred to the first apartment building as being part of "Phase 1" as well, but I don't recall hearing who was building that and when. The first apartment building is said to be a 114-unit (reduced from 125) market rate project. Future phases (to come over the next 10+ years, after the existing MPS building is torn down) would add another 500 or so units (some affordable/subsidized), plaza space, etc.

Here's a link to the EAW which explains the timeline a bit: http://www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/www/gro ... 134927.pdf
The aforementioned apartment building is indeed part of "Phase 1", I just don't know if it is actually under construction yet. One document said April 2016 groundbreaking, so maybe / maybe soon.
