I thought surely we would start the bad photo update thing with this, just like across the street. That photo update isn't nearly bad enough.

Op delivers.

Bonus, I can see it peaking out from my kitchen window as well.

Up to five stories (one story of concrete and 4 stories of steel) and that looks to be as tall as it's going to be. But these are office floors so it's still pretty tall.

Can any additional phases be constructed without the removal of the Adult education building? From what I have heard, it sounds like it's going to be a while before that building is actually demolished. Once this first phase of construction is complete, are we in a holding pattern?

Nope, the next phase depends on the ABE building coming down. Demolition has already started on the site of the future Adult ed campus 2 blocks west of here. In either 2017 or 2018, the school district has to start paying rent to the county if they still occupy the building (I'm pretty sure it's the start of Fall semester in 2018) and the school district is determined to not pay rent, so they're very motivated. There won't be much of a delay between phase one being finished and phase two starting.

Took this picture this morning. Window framing going in on the ground floor. Plaza is shaping up between the building and the LRT station. Will be nice once they open up the bus stop and the right lane of traffic on Lake St. here again.

Took this last week and posted it on the Twitters, but check out this sidewalk! That's gotta be one of the widest, if not THE widest sidewalks in the Twin Cities.

School district:

So has the Minneapolis public school system purchased that site two blocks away? Any thoughts on when they may start constructing their new building, if the land has been purchased?

They've purchased the land and cleared most of the buildings, they're getting permits to demo the last remaining structure, which had to go through HPC (there's some discussion of it in the general Southside thread). HPC approved demolition, some local busybodies appealed that to Z&P, Z&P denied the appeal, and so that will go to full council this Friday.

They've got a pretty ambitous goal that I think requires the full design to be completed and approved this winter and to break ground in the spring, to be out of their currently building by the time Fall 2018 semester starts (when the school district has to start paying rent to Hennepin County).

Fishmanpet I want to see more of your terrible photos - of this project or any other - they're my favorite construction pictures.

I don't have the best eyesight, so maybe some of you can help me out here. I've been by on the light rail, and also walked around. It seems like the Hennepin county office building is going up much faster than the residential portion.

I don't think they're doing anything with that residential portion yet, beyond the parking structure that runs under both buildings. Looking back at the CoW stuff from 2 years ago they're including that residential in this first phase but you wouldn't know by seeing it. I wonder if maybe the site would just be too constrained with two separate buildings going up at the same time that they want to finish the office building before doing the residential. They're also still working on the inside of the parking structure so maybe that's not finished yet to a point where they can start the residential construction.

Just noticed they made this site Rapid Bus-ready. Raised curb, tactile strip and the bases for the shelter and pylon. Hooray for foresight!

It's part of the regular CNO Land Use comittee meeting, I'll be there and hopefully come back with some pictures. This picture was posted on the CNO Facebook event for the meeting:
