Does anyone know what the plan is for 2629 30th Ave South? I went by yesterday and the Hauenstein & Burmeister building is rubble. Google tells me they have moved to Washington Ave North.

They put up a very large for sale sign, which makes me think there is no plan yet. Probably demolished building to get rid of potential liability. Huge site.

I can't believe a 23,000 SF mansion in South Minneapolis only fetched $1.2M!!

I can't believe that neighborhood will have another rehab center.

I love this mansion and a better plan would have been condos. What is bad is that they are keeping that horrible addition which has almost destroyed the look of the mansion to begin with.

Corner Table is taking over the La Chaya Bistro space a few blocks down Nicollet, and opening a new concept in their existing space. Good news for Kingfield. http://blogs.mspmag.com/foodiefile/2014 ... situation/

Never did try out La Chaya (and had no idea it closed), but a coworker of my wife's really liked it. I always found its location strangely hidden, thanks to that world-class carwash blocking the view from the south.

If La Chaya had a marketing budget, it never reached me - and I live in the neighborhood.

I might be biased because I'm friends with the Exec Chef of Corner Table (he played guitar in a band with me) but having their imprint on two improved spaces on Nicollet will be a great thing for our area.

I take it we are talking about the restaurant to the north of the BP station at 46th and Nicollet.

Champions Bar on Lake Street is likely to lose their liquor license today: http://www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/meeting ... S1P-118806

Good riddance. I don't even care if the owner sues the city (again), it's time to be done with him. He should sell the property to a developer. That bar has so many problems it would be better vacant than in business.

I have personally witnessed multiple midday arrests going down outside that bar, back when I worked in Phillips and drove to lunch in Uptown once or twice a week. The percentage of arrests witnessed per number of times I've driven by on Lake truly is astonishing.

From the Strib article:
Additionally, the judge recommended the city move a bus stop outside the bar, which owner Rick Nelson has long blamed for attracting much of the crime.
What a BS double standard. I'm not surprised that the owner is blaming his problems on a bus stop but it is disheartening to see the judge do the same.

Well if they don't sell alcohol then I guess I'll just have to go there to buy drugs!

That just fills me with rage. I wish I could have attended the liquor license hearing today to bring this point up. Metro Transit seems unable to stand up for themselves in these types of situations. Perhaps we need a political leader to stick their neck out and say "Damnit, stop blaming the bus stop". Actually, former councilmember Robert Lilligren did just that on Facebook when he shared the Strib article. If there is a high amount of illicit activity happening in/around this bus shelter (like more than average), it is directly related to patrons of the bar, not the other way around.

I'd love to see Brian Lamb or another high ranking official at Metro Transit/Met Council tell this bar owner to prove that the bus stop crime wasn't connected to his bar (and then tell him to STFU).

In a better world, the judge meant the city should remove the bus stop, as they are spaced too closely together on Lake St ;)

A good test might be to move the close the bus stop for six month. Watch the crime around the bar. If no statistical blip his bluff has been called and license is revoked.

In nobody's defense: bus stops are attractive places for people to loiter. Not to suggest that bus riders are any worse than anybody else, but if you're trying to stand on a corner and sell something, standing by the bus stop makes it look like you have a reason to be hanging out.
