Southside - News & General Topics
Re: Southside - General Topics
Redfin real estate analysts came out with their annual ranking of the nation's hottest neighborhoods for the upcoming year. Standish-Ericsson and Powderhorn both made the top 10 at #3 and #10, respectively. This seems to be based on searches and favorites using the Redfin site and seems to exclude the rental market.

Saw this in the City Pages. A New concert venue on 40th and Bryant.

Although I like the concept and think Minneapolis could use a space like this, im not sure about the location... No parking, next to a residential house, non-commercial corner etc. How does this just get to open, but Harriets Inn have so much back in forth?

Hard to believe that they'll be able to make a go of it without selling food or drinks.

Well they sound affected.Conceived as “the missing piece” to the Twin Cities music scene, the Warming House will be the only space besides 500-plus capacity venues like the Cedar Cultural Center where locals will be able to, “listen to live music without aural competition from bartenders mixing drinks, diners’ noisy plates and glasses, gurgling cappuccino machines, loud conversations and the revelling of those who are there for everything but the music," according to its website.
Q. What, what? A. In da butt.

It's a serious place to listen to serious music seriously.

Gosh, I'll leave my difficult to unwrap butterscotch candies and dry throat clearing at home.

Between this place and Music Forest Cafe (which isn't open on the weekend or past 4pm) lovers of peanut m&ms and soft drinks with their music will be well served.

Re: Southside - General Topics
The property along Lyndale will be up for sale and redevelopment in the next few years. I hope the folks along Garfield and Aldrich are ready for a change in the landscape, as it will be coming with them along for the ride or kicking and screaming that they don't want it. The changes are going to happen for the good of the neighborhood and the city as a whole. Part of how we get large enough number for the 4 to be a hi-frequency route. More retail for the neighborhood which would be good.http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/hnp/o ... 21349.html

Re: Southside - General Topics
The property is zoned c2 and the adjoining parcels not on lyndale are r6. There's basically nothing neighbors could do to stop dense residential uses. Cup for height would be tough to argue against since a five story building wouldn't block views of downtown or the sun for residences.

"Flotation therapy" coming soon to 43rd & Bryant:

Isn't this the same sort of thing that used to be marketed as "sensory deprivation tanks"? Or is this truly a step beyond?

Re: Southside - General Topics
I am sure many have already seen this, but the city just released an updated plan for the South Minneapolis Parks. Additionally, they have created a parks connection map, which could be useful for future bike and greenway planning.
There will be a meeting held next week on Monday, February 22, from 6:00-8:00 PM at McRae Recreation Center, 907 East 47th Street, Minneapolis.

Re: St. Louis Park - General Topics
Has anyone seen this Joffe Corporate Office Building proposal? It has a Minneapolis address, but it doesn't really fit anywhere in the Minneapolis General threads that I could find. It looks like a very basic 7 story office building with a massive amount of parking (4:1,000). Which is ludicrous for being next to a future light rail line.

What does 4/1000 mean?

Re: St. Louis Park - General Topics
Its not in SLP though, it's right at the Penn/394 intersection. That's very Minneapolis.
Re: Southside - General Topics
I'm assuming 4:1000 parking means 4 spots/1000 sqft, or 680 spots, which looks about right for the size of that ramp.
Idk, I can't really blame them for having a whole bunch of parking in that area, although perhaps they could get away with a bit less. SWLRT isn't an absolutely sure thing yet, and, assuming they're not planning to sit on this for a couple years, it would probably open before 2020 or whenever the LRT goes into service, and it's pretty inaccessible by transit until then.
Hopefully the ramp is at least designed for some more office to go on top, if they find it's underused after the LRT opens.

They'll have some pretty impressive downtown views from this location too.

Will it be high enough to have views of Cedar Lake too?
