I still not sure what's going on, but they're digging and driving round piles and sheet piles. Still related to last year's sewer work?

That webpage is from Lander Group's project of several years ago. Why they haven't put that webpage to bed is a mystery.

I suspect some of the work may be pre-construction, as the main building permit was issued to Frana last month.

Looking this afternoon, they pulled up tons of old wood piles. Huh.

They are planning to build in a swamp! Those pilings are probably what they used to help support the last building that stood there. Wood pilings were used a lot to firm up the ground a half century ago and earlier so buildings could be built on unstable ground.

Actually Lake of the Isles and Calhoun were once one water system with a series of wetlands between them. First came the railroad, then Lake Street, and finally real estate speculators.

Looks like there will be at least one level of underground parking. They have quite a few piles driven in so far, but many yet to go. Glad that that spot of land will finally be filled. It has been an eye sore for too long.

That's last night's rain you're seeing there. They were pumping the pools out this morning. Still, yes, the soils are pretty peaty in this stretch.

Hmm, I am thinking that is mostly ground water coming up? I live in the general area, and we basically got missed by the rain all week sadly(I've been hoping for rain for my garden, and it is like we are under a magical bubble on the radar all week)...have only gotten .10 of an inch all week, so I don't know that much water could come from that little rain? As we know, other building in the area have to continuously pump out water because the water table is so high here...

I have to agree with you nmmike, that the water table there is not going to be very low. They will have to do a very good job of sealing that basement for the high water years. The water table in the area is fairly high. Just ask 1800 Lake about that!

According to the plans, there will be a single level of underground parking. The rear half of the ground floor will also be parking.

So, was this the last, easiest, best development site left on Lake Calhoun?
